roadfix 05-10-10 12:06 PM

No, just get bigger tires instead.

turtle jesus 05-10-10 12:07 PM

will bigger tires make it harder to skid?

Impreza_aL 05-10-10 12:11 PM

Bigger tires pull off the gnarliest whip skids.

turtle jesus 05-10-10 12:18 PM

does anyone know good 29 inch that come light baby blue?

ScottNotBombs 05-10-10 12:20 PM

I thought the same thing. It makes sense that more rotating mass would make it harder to skid, but I didn't notice any difference between a 23mm and 28mm tire. It probably depends on your leg strength and gear ratio though... I'm kind of low at 42x17.

ScottNotBombs 05-10-10 12:21 PM

Btw, that seatpost is fugly in my opinion...

turtle jesus 05-10-10 12:24 PM

i run 52x17 tho :o

but the seat post should be alot easier on the rear

queerpunk 05-10-10 12:40 PM

you should not spend a $150 on any seatpost.

you should not spend any money on that seatpost.

wroomwroomoops 05-10-10 12:48 PM

I didn't try that kind of seatpost. But I bet none of the naysayers here have tried it, either.

You must understand: this sub-forum is choke full of utterly conformist, close-minded people. Better luck in the commuter subforum.

How about this, what saddle do you ride on?

If its some junker, 150 bucks could be waaaay better spent on a new fizik or brooks or something snappy.
Your rump will love it more than some wacky ejector seatpost.

Do you ride on crazy bumpy (off)roads?

I have, and I found it irritating and not particularly comfortable.

I would like to represent the commuter forum in this matter:

Ummm.... You did have a seat mounted to it, right?

Moozh 05-10-10 04:20 PM

Thats a goddam thudbuster...it's proven itself all over the world so it has a value and application, that said it tends to be on long haulers, off road, and otherwise rugged hardcore/otherwise bone-jarring applications. They have a more aesthetically pleasing 'ST' model but I dont think they will add anything visually to the typical svelt roadbike FG/SS look.

I got one when I was putting together my SS rigid MTB, I was rather looking forward to using it as when I first set my bike up I put on skinny ultragatorskins and found I had a very rude awakening with how hard the ride was and how badly my stock saddle sucked. My 'redo' was overdramatic (big tires, thudbuster AND sprung saddle) but as 'roadfix' said, the larger tires (big apples) were all that was needed (and a better seat). I took my maiden voyage after putting the tires on, the thudbusters were still being shipped to me, and the ride was sublime, soaked up all the bumps, great ride quality, surprisingly low roll resistance.

I put the sprung saddle (B67) and the thudbuster on just to get a feel and it was kinda crazy..."stupid comfy and bouncy". All that was needed was the bigger tires in my case, balloon tires are likely way more than you are looking for but they were perfect for my mtb application.

seatpost is ridiculous

That seatpost is ridiculous. To top it off, it's ugly as all hell.

rustybrown 05-11-10 12:09 AM

...just wondering if it will lead to water eventually.

grymg 05-11-10 04:35 PM

$150 and it doesn't open bottles for you? smh

LupinIII 05-11-10 04:42 PM
