I thought the same thing. It makes sense that more rotating mass would make it harder to skid, but I didn't notice any difference between a 23mm and 28mm tire. It probably depends on your leg strength and gear ratio though... I'm kind of low at 42x17.

Btw, that seatpost is fugly in my opinion...

i run 52x17 tho :o

If its some junker, 150 bucks could be waaaay better spent on a new fizik or brooks or something snappy.

Thats a goddam thudbuster...it's proven itself all over the world so it has a value and application, that said it tends to be on long haulers, off road, and otherwise rugged hardcore/otherwise bone-jarring applications. They have a more aesthetically pleasing 'ST' model but I dont think they will add anything visually to the typical svelt roadbike FG/SS look.

I got one when I was putting together my SS rigid MTB, I was rather looking forward to using it as when I first set my bike up I put on skinny ultragatorskins and found I had a very rude awakening with how hard the ride was and how badly my stock saddle sucked. My 'redo' was overdramatic (big tires, thudbuster AND sprung saddle) but as 'roadfix' said, the larger tires (big apples) were all that was needed (and a better seat). I took my maiden voyage after putting the tires on, the thudbusters were still being shipped to me, and the ride was sublime, soaked up all the bumps, great ride quality, surprisingly low roll resistance.

I put the sprung saddle (B67) and the thudbuster on just to get a feel and it was kinda crazy..."stupid comfy and bouncy". All that was needed was the bigger tires in my case, balloon tires are likely way more than you are looking for but they were perfect for my mtb application.
