So the frameset at BIkeisland doesnt come with a carbon fork
http://bikeisland.com/images/1204014.JPG
And the Complete on Bikesdirect comes with a Kinesis? Too Bad.
Complete is still Great Deal tho.

Hey Loch can you measure the crank arms for me? BD says these bikes get 170mm on size small/medium and 172.5mm on large. I don't know what crank arm length size 54 and 56 fall in..

See, I'm trying to figure out what size to get..either a 54 or 56 as I'm also 5'11 w/33 inseam wearing my shoes. Is the size 54 stand over height really 30.5''? If you can, can you measure the distance from the ground to the top of the top tube.

Anybody with size 56? can you guys measure the crank arm length and true stand over height? Even tho BD list as 31'', still may be off ya kno

Still considering ordering this bike in a 60 cm. Great thread, should prove to be helpful. What's worse is that I don't have anything to compare it to as my Trek still hasn't arrived and won't for another month or so.

JDMFanatic 08-08-10 12:49 PM

i really wonder why people don't buy this bike when i see it on bikesdirect. seems like a great deal to me compared to bikes like the kilo tt :)

I've got an SST-AL!

http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._2444700_n.jpg

HED Stinger 90s
Bontrager carbon seatpost
Aerus Composites full carbon fork (blades and steerer)
C-Bros Eggbeater C pedals
KMC 710SL chain
etc...

I also have a rear disc wheel, front Hed3 and the stock wheelset sans machined braking surface if you want pics of those..

adriano 08-08-10 02:28 PM

no, im good.

One of my friends just got this bike but they're looking to put a fixed cog on it (he doesn't want a freewheel, wants to go fixed). Does anyone know what I would have to buy to make it work? Just the fixed cog and a lockring? Any specific measurements or anything?
Thanks guys.

Squirrelli 08-08-10 05:34 PM

What kind of hub is it?
Track hub, freewheel hub or freehub...hub?

JDMFanatic 08-08-10 06:07 PM

Honestly Vixtor I have no idea. XD
How can I find out? There's a freewheel on the other side already so I'd assume the other side is a Track Hub? Since this bike has a flip flop hub?

Squirrelli 08-08-10 06:12 PM

What brand is it?
If the other side has a "stepped" threading on the hub, then it is a track hub. He can just put a cog and lockring on and run it as fixed.

JDMFanatic 08-08-10 06:18 PM

According to the bikesdirect website it's a formula hub, he hasn't received the bike yet. Is there any specific track cog I need to buy? I see a lot of different track cogs and lockrings, such as 1.29x24.tpi, 1.32x24tpi, etc. etc.

Squirrelli 08-08-10 06:23 PM

If it's a Formula, stay away from Miche or Phil Wood lockrings, they are not the same threading as your Formula hubs.

A tried a true combination of cog+lockring is Dura Ace or EAI cog with a Dura Ace lockring.

JDMFanatic 08-08-10 06:28 PM

DA only makes up to 16T... is it okay to buy a 16T even though the bike is 17T on it right now? And does it matter which measurement lockring? I see some different measurements

http://cgi.ebay.com/SHIMANO-DURA-ACE...ts_Accessories

I was thinking of buying this combination. Yes? No?

Squirrelli 08-08-10 06:40 PM

As I said, stay away from Miche or Phil Wood lockring, they are Italian threaded.

I'd stay with the same size cog so your gear ratio remains the same.

JDMFanatic 08-08-10 06:47 PM

Dangit, Dura-Ace only makes up to a 16T cog. Oh well, I will just get the EAI cog then. Thanks!

SOMA makes excellent cogs all the way up to 21T for a lot less than EAI >>> http://www.worldclasscycles.com/Trac...nents_cart.htm

JDMFanatic 08-08-10 07:20 PM

Seems like the SOMA track cog is a lot more towards my budget. Getting the Black ANO track cog from there for 24$ only. Thanks TT!

espi-JG 08-08-10 08:25 PM

The bike comes with a cog and a freewheel. The specs on the website are incorrect.

I have the 60cm size. I'm not sure what the stand-over height is, but I have a 33" inseam and can straddle it w/o a problem..

MRBanks 08-10-10 10:50 AM

I received my bike yesterday! However, shipping I believe has damaged the rear fork ends, little disappointed. The bike is beautiful in black. The only badges are on the head & seat tube, no big DAWES SST AL logo along the top/down tubes. However until I get a warranty fix or whatever it takes to get a new frame, I don't get to enjoy riding it, just looking at it. :/ I'll post pics of it when everything is normal again and I get the upgrades installed.

arkadi4 08-11-10 09:30 PM

Hello,

I received mine a week ago. Polished, 58cm. I'm 5'11 w/33 inseam. Fixed gear cog is installed, freewheel included.

Could somebody post a photo of SST AL in black?

squeegeesunny 08-11-10 09:35 PM

Oh man, Arkadi, can you post a picture of it? I've fallen in love with the SSTAL frame.

Squirrelli 08-11-10 09:44 PM

Unfortunately, SST doesn't come in black.
