help with wheelset
 

so i brought some wheels but the stem valve is very narrow and the tube wont fit inside it.
Very annoyed right now because i have to fork out some more money. Was wondering would i need new special tyres for these type of rims aswell? Sorry i'm new to this all and wheels and tyres.

you need presta tubes.
something like 48~52mm length valves.

or you can drill out the hole to widen it. but i would just get some presta valve tubes.

edit: drilling out the hole to make it bigger won't solve the problem you'll have with short valve shraeder tubes. so just get some long valve prestas

what about tyres? they seem the same size but when i put them on they get larger?

do i need specific tyres for these rims now?

Don't do that!.... presta valved tubes are wayyy batter in many aspects and more common these days compared to Schneider valves; and because once you drill it you cannot go back.

What old wheels did you have?
Are you trying to put old 27" road bike tires on new 700c sized rims?

Not necessarily true as there are inserts you can put into a Schrader hole to make it Presta-compatible.

Can you read what's printed on the sides of the tires?

You can't say Presta valve tubes are better in many aspects, they are both made to keep air in the tube and provide an excellent seal. I'd say Schrader is somewhat more convenient because I could use compress air at gas stations to fill up my tires if I wanted to. Presta valves tubes are better for narrower wheels IMHO, a large hole might weaken the wheel...

you need 700 cc tubes in presta valve

Your rim might not be able to handle a 38 wide tire, it is best for you to get a narrower tire. Also, when you buy a tube ask for a tube with 60mm valve stem.

sheesh, 38's are kinda wide.
