Soma Rush builds anyone?
Since every other major bike has a thread of build pics, I thought the Soma Rush deserved some love and attention. I've been building mine up over the past few weeks and finally have it about where I want it.
Specs: 57cm frame, threaded fork Velocity Aeroheads 28h, Dura Ace 7710 Low Flange Hubs, DT Champion Double Butted Spokes Dura Ace 7710 Track Cranks, Dura Ace 49t Chainring Dura Ace 7710 Octalink Bottom Bracket Nitto B105 Road Drops Nitto Dynamic Stem Fizik Arione Saddle, Vintage Shimano 600 Aero Seatpost Vittoria Rubino Pro 700x25 Tires Soma 18t Cog, Dura Ace Lockring Tange Levin Headset Shimano M520 SPD Pedals http://i947.photobucket.com/albums/a...s/SDC10584.jpg http://i947.photobucket.com/albums/a...s/SDC10587.jpg http://i947.photobucket.com/albums/a...s/SDC10585.jpg http://i947.photobucket.com/albums/a...s/SDC10586.jpg The only thing that's left to do is replace the missing barplug that fell out this morning. grr. I'd also like to replace the saddle with another arione. I got a deal on this one because it was ripped slightly. I'm planning on taking this thing out to the track for the beginner class next week. I'm super excited about it. Anyway i'd love to get some feedback and see what people have done with their somas! |
I'm liking your cranks.:thumb:
|
thanks! they're all that's left from the motobecane team track that i sold to build this up. i'm definitely liking this a lot better. aluminum was just way to harsh for me.
|
This build looks really good, I really like it. 49/18 might be a tad too low for the tracks.
Which one are you going to anyways? |
yeah, i'll definitely drop down to a 15 or 16 cog when i get to the track. and lose the brake obviously. i'll be going to alpenrose on the outskirts of portland. i just went out there to spectate for the first time last week and it seems incredibly fun! although the banking is scary steep (43 degrees!). but that's why i'm hitting up the development classes before i try to race for real.
|
That sounds like it's going to be really fun, going to the tracks is fun in general, watching or participating.
The track here, Burnaby Velodrome, 47 degree...:( |
47 degrees? yikes! at least you guys have a nice indoor velodrome for year-round use. we're slaves to the eternal northwest rains down here.
|
you need a higher gear if you're going to make it through those turns safely. a 16t or 15t should be better.
|
49-18 isn't too bad. it's over 70 gear inches. Just don't take the corners too tight. v0v

thank you sharpsandflatts for setting up a soma rush appreciation thread. its about bloody time.

This is a very nice build. I really like your choice of wheelsets - flashy < performance. It has a very timeless look. I also like the 49/18 gearing. Glad to see I'm not the only one who doesn't like to push 120 gear inches in traffic*.
Come to think of it, this looks like something I would build: Nice Aeroheads, skinny tubes, shiny components, lowish ratio, and a front brake. Great minds . . . *I am not advocating 49/18 for the track, but neither are you. |

as far as the saddle angle goes, it's comfortable for me. i don't know why they make seatposts adjustable if people just give you hard time for having them anything other than perfectly level.
