Chicago Riders: The BLT?

Anybody doing it?...

Mmm, BLT... lousy vegetarianism.

I checked out the site, looks like it could be a good time. $30 is a little steep, but then again there's a t-shirt thrown in. Definitely be the farthest I would have ridden on the fixie. Blah blah blah, anyway, what was I saying? Oh yeah, the ride sounds good and I might do it, but since you don't really know me I don't know how much good that does you.

If you like meat you should eat it.

Sounds decent - I'd do it with some peeps. Pete, you thinking about it?

If the $30 is steep, you could volunteer...

The volunteer ride already occurred, Sunday the 29th, and I wouldn't have wanted to miss out on that if I volunteered. I can swing $30, I just like to b!tch and moan.

I know, I will eat meat occasionally, but a couple weeks ago I started trying this vegetarian thing for health reasons (definitely not ethics). Bacon is a wicked temptress though.

Alright chumps, now I want to do this ride.
I'm not going to know anyone else riding, so is anyone on this board going that I can look out for?

Also, I don't have cages or a bag on my bike, would I look like a dork if I wore my Timbuk2 on a 35-mile ride? (I figure if I don't bring the yoga mat, it won't be too heavy with 2-3 bottles, a lock, a couple tools and a sandwich in there)

Major Dorkiness

Moonshot 09-04-04 12:09 PM

It takes more than that to look dorky on a fixed gear.

BOULEVARD LAKEFRONT TOUR
Sunday, September 12
Final reminder!

Weather reports are fantastic for the 16th Annual Boulevard Lakefront Tour. Accuweather (www.accuweather.com) reports sunny and about 78 degrees! Come out and join us on this great tour of Chicago's famous boulevards and parks - you can register now at www.biketraffic.org/BLT

Highlights of this year's BLT include:
- A rest stop complete with tours of the Center for Green Technology, only the third building in the United States to be designed using the highest standards of green technology available.
- A rest stop in the historic Prairie Avenue district. The National Vietnam Veterans Art Museum will open early to accommodate BLT participants.
- Exterior tours of the newly renovated Robie House, Frank Lloyd Wright's Prairie masterpiece. In addition, all tour participants will receive a pass for two adult admissions for the price of one for a Robie House interior tour.
- Views of Washington Park, Garfield Park, Palmer Square, Logan Square, and the boulevards in between; the historic Midway Plaisance at the University of Chicago; the architecture of downtown Chicago; and Promontory Point.

Your ride fee ($30, $25 for CBF members, $15 for kids) includes a 100% cotton 16th Annual BLT shirt, access to rest stops that offer Clif Bars, fruit and other goodies, a detailed route map with architectural and historical facts, and repair and SAG assistance if you have trouble. All proceeds benefit the Chicagoland Bicycle Federation (www.biketraffic.org).

When you sign up, you'll have the opportunity to purchase a picnic lunch for $4, with vegetarian and meat options. Join us back at the start area (Woodlawn/59th), for the BLT Festival featuring food, vendors, music and more fun!

During the BLT packet pickups in our office, and on September 12 at the BLT, we will be selling classic Chicagoland Bicycle Federation event shirts at the very special price of $2 each, or 3 for $5. Cash only, first come first serve.

We'll see you at the BLT!

Anybody for L-ing it down Sunday morning?

absntr 09-09-04 10:16 AM

I was going to ask you what you were doing - riding, etc. Are you and 165 L-ing it? I'd be down - we can meet at a train stop (Addison?) and then head down there.
