The Start.
Got This old 10-speed schwinn sprint for free, and its just been sitting in the garage. so i decided i would turn it into a FG bike for cruising around town. This is the start of the project. Took 30 minutes to strip it of brakes, derailer, etc. Next step is a fresh paint job.
Any recomendations for forks? Before. http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k1...40/bike001.jpg http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k1...40/bike002.jpg After http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k1.../random003.jpg http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k1.../random004.jpg |
Neat.......:innocent:

Nuttin wrong with the paint now.

The paint looks fine, a quality fork will cost you as much (or more) than the cost of making it a fixed gear. If it works, keep it that way. Are those 27" wheels? Wheel & Sprocket offers a 27" fixed gear kit for about $150 that will get you everything you need.
Nice project though...enjoy it. |
Recommendations for forks? Why?

Nice project though...enjoy it. Yeah, i was just throwing around the idea of changing out the forks. |
the forks are fine! paint looks ok too. Id recommend getting a conversion kit. sooner or later though, you'll end up replacing everything, ultimately getting a new frame too.... thats just the fixie bug.

Are you just going to rattle-can it? I wouldn't paint it if it were mine, but it's fun to give a new look on the cheap.

Like this http://www.bmwscruz.com/motorcycles/1996/96r11rt2.jpg It will be stripped to bare metal before the respray. |

I'm also going to remove all the brake line eyelets, and cable routers.
|
Put a front brake on there.

The only thing I would do to that is put a track hub on the rear and a front brake and maybe change the crank. Keep the drops.

Anyone have thoughts on the stem/neck? I wanted to go with a black one, but might just polish the one thats on there now. |
|
If you're going to paint do it right and get it powder coated. If you're going to do that you might as well invest in a frame. In the true fixed gear spirit do it on the cheap and keep the paint! You can get some deep Vs somewhat cheap, ebay is a good place to look.
|
It'll look more classy with the stock rims than deep V's

so in your opinion no deep-V rims?

You must be really tall.
Enjoy |
I got a set of Eighthinch Tessa's for what might as well be the same frame. While they're not deep v's, they've certainly got some rise to them. I love the way they look, but if Velo-Orange had been selling their current fixed wheelsets at the time I would have gotten them. They've got a more standard rim and they look way classy/refined.
Class before trend, man. |
