Advantages of a thomson seatpost?

Never had a thomson seatpost before; although I've had plenty of experience with their stems. I know the advantage of quality is there but what else aside from that? I'm contempting to pick up a used one for cheap....

Nimitz87 05-24-10 10:04 PM

the ability to minutely adjust the angle is nice, they are usually lighter as well

Light weight, infinite adjustability, as durable as a seatpost gets.

"cheap"? good luck with that... at least the good thing about buying one, is you can always throw it on ebay and get like 50$ for it back

Is there another seatpost that's good quality but not as expensive? Mine sucks but im not trying to spend 90$ on a new one.

muckymucky 05-24-10 11:16 PM

yea i got lucky and got my thomson masterpiece on ebay for $30. ****s only 150g @ 300mm
the post is lighter than so many "carbon" posts and feels super sturdy~
cant go wrong with any piece of thomson if you can find the right price and pick it up for around $40

I think you get how much I'm getting mine at :)

They are also stronger than regular seat posts. IF they give out, they bend, not break.

How I envy you, Thomson posts are god of all seatposts.

Yes, I know, I would starve as a salesman. The strength factor probably does not apply to fixed/ss as much as mountain biking. There was a guy over in the mtb forum that posted about his seat post breaking off in one shot, not bending, breaking. He fractured one of his testicles due to that incident. Fractured one of his testicles. Fractured one of.... well I think you see what I am getting at.

busted knuckles 05-25-10 12:15 AM

Did I mention the dude fractured one of his testicles?

Nimitz87 05-25-10 12:28 AM

JESUS I don't want to even think about FRACTURING anything down stairs!

Tiny, but nice detail: the surface has a very subtle texture that makes it a lot less prone to slippage than other posts at a given clamp force.

The advantage of a Thomson seatpost:

it says "Thomson" on it

Zing!

Wait a second... my Thomson seatpost doesn't say "Thomson" on it - so what am I left with? Worst day ever.
