new u lock - brute vs evolution?
 

So after my friend had his bike (fixed conversion) stolen where the ppl cut through his old kryptonite series 2 u lock (same as mine), im thinking imma get a thicker one

onguard brute mini or kryptonite evolution mini?

i found a steal on the brute, only about 32 dollars, plus its less hipster

locks are hipster too now?

Don't think you can wrong with either one. Get whichever you can find cheapest, I suppose.

Me and my bikes (cinelli/bianchi caliber) stand by my kryptonite locks. I have used kryptonite locks since I began riding; I currently have 2 mini's and 1 mini LS in service; none have failed me yet.

Not sure about bulldog locks as I'm not a owner but from handling my friend's bulldog's they feel cheaper than krytonites; which is a given tho considering the price you can get one at....

In my opinion a true hipster lock would be those premium $50+ palmy aluminium locks; which offer around the same protection as a cable lock.... for the price of a proper kryptonite u lock.

Duh, it's totally ironic to pretend to care about the safety of your bike. Kryptonite NYFU's are sooo mainstream, because they're the "toughest." Lame.

I don't remember which band it was or how the song goes but the point is that not doing something just because it's popular is as lame as doing something just because it's popular. And considering the hipster/irony relationship you just opened a whole can of bananas.

Just get what's good/cheap and ride your fixie, ya' hispter. ;-)

Neither of those locks will offer better protection than a Series 2. An angle grinder will go thru any u-lock like butter. Get a chain with a double deadbolt disc lock as the next upgrade.

get the bulldog mini. anything better than that can be defeated with an angle grinder, which is how one would try to compromise a bulldog mini.

the angle grinder point is true, but at least this one should be more resistant to bolt cutter (what most of the thieves in la have)

If a professional thief wants your bike, he will get your bike. Period.

Locks are to stop crimes of opportunity (non-professional thieves) and to make your NYFU-locked bike less of a target than the cable-locked bike next to it.

That was because the chain was on the ground allowing more leverage for a bolt cutter.

Joe Hynes and Cyrus Vance need to put together an initiative to stop bike theft. So simple to do, take some attractive bikes, lightly lock them, monitor them, and then bust the theives. 4th degree Grand Larceny only requires $1,000, that's an E Felony and EASY stat padder for the DA's. Why not do it? Anybody looking to start a movement?!?!?!

I hope you didn't buy that lock at botachtactical it took me a full month to receive an item from them once

why dont any of the companies make a u-lock with a shackle that is the same material and hex sides as the chain locks? much harder to cut I would imagine... also being a u-lock leverage wouldnt work either...

unfortunately i already placed the order; ya i was reading reviews of botach after the fact and they sound pretty terrible. i got an email response already at least to arrange pickup, since im only about 20 mins away. hopefully itll work out
