Pedal recommendation
I have a Motobecane Uno. I would like to get better pedals than what came with the bike. The clips aren't all that easy to adjust and I want to get a better pedal with clips. I want one that offers good support, does not shift around, and is easy to tighten and loosen.

You can install separate clips & straps onto your existing pedals. Try leather straps; they're far sturdier than nylon/fabric straps. Another step up would be dual-gate metal clips, which are wider and cover a greater area of your foot. Another step up would be double straps (or two sets of single straps), then finally quad-gate clips.
As for easy adjustment, I've never known how to adjust my straps while riding a fixed gear bike (I need two hands and obviously can't do it while continuously pedalling), so instead I got a strong double strap & quad-gate clip setup (MKS Alpha-Fit double straps and All-City Fourgate Plastic Clips and I use a set-and-forget method. Works for me. |
You don't need 2 hands, you just need to have your straps set up properly, most people like to tuck the loose end back in the buckle. Don't do this, it prevents you from being able to adjust while riding and you lose foot retention because of it.
Set up your strap like this, whenever you need to loosen the strap just reach down and push the top of the buckle, if you want to tighten back up just pull on the strap. http://www.bike-manual.com/brands/tr...n_toestrap.gif But the best thing to do is get a clipless set up, I was hesitant at first, but eventually found a really good deal on some pedals and shoes. It's soooo much better than cages, I had them on my FG because it was my only bike, but I got a new geared bike and switched them over that that and put the cages back on my FG. The difference in foot retention is unbelievable, I hate riding with cages now. |
I use:
-MKS GR-9 pedals (love these; nice wide platform and no sharp edges to tear up your shoes like on the Sylvans) -Soma quad gate clips (don't really like these. They curve downward and dig into the tops of my shoes too much. I also just dont really like quad gate design in general) -Toshi doubles (love these) |
