3/32 cog + 1/8 chainring + 1/8 chain = ?

i have an EAI deluxe cog size 3/32. im switching my stock FSA Vero's (dont know chainring size) with a set of Sugino Messengers with a 1/8 chainring. Will it work as long i have a 1/8 chain? Are there any downsides to a 3/32 cog with a 1/8 crankset? Thanks , sorry im a fixed noob and just wanna make suree.

No worries... it will run out fine.

The 1/8 chain will also let you run 3/32 or 1/8 cogs if you decide to swap things around out back.

= perfectly functional bike + noise + cog that wears faster than if it was matched to the chain.

You'll be all good, might be loud if you don't keep it lubed it, otherwise you'll have no trouble.

what noise? I run a mixed drive train and it's quiet. The only time it makes noise is when the occasional rain washes off my lube.

Like others have said, it works fine. Done it before, doing it again soon. I really didn't notice any more noise with my drivetrain. Keep it clean and lubed.

+1, I have no problem with noise on the drive train on either of my fixied gears one is 1/8th chainring and 3/32 cog with 1/8th chain the other both chainring and cog are 3/32 with a 1/8th chain

I am running this right now as well. I considered trying a 3/32" drivetrain and bought a couple 3/32" Surly cogs but the availability of 3/32" chainrings (esp. coming with cranksets) has made me sort of abandon the idea. The cranksets I am looking at are all 1/8" only so I'm eventually going to go with some 1/8" Phil cogs but for now, the drive is quiet as a mouse.

I don't recommend mixing a 1/8" chain with a 3/32" cogs/chainrings. I tried it on my setup and it was noisy as hell. The big problem was that the chain would jump when the inner chain plate would get caught on the lip of the chainring teeth. This could lead to throwing a chain.

I would drop the few extra bucks that it cost to go all 1/8". It feels so much better, with less slop, and it is is ninja quiet.

I've used a 3/32" chainring before with a 1/8" chain and cog...nothing wrong with it.
