Is this safe?
Hey everyone,
I'm just completing my first fixie build. I just got back from my LBS to get some parts put on and get the chain cut to the proper length. The worker put on the back wheel for me as well. I asked if I could purchase some spacers for the rear hub so I could space it to 126mm. He said that wasn't necessary and that its a steel frame, the axle could just be tightened and squeeze the rear dropouts to fit the hub. He didn't cold set the frame or anything, just tightened the axle on. Is this safe, or would this damage my frame? |
It might steer funny and may never really hold the right shape again.
If you want spacers he should put them on. Customer wants it, do it. Real question is though, what is the spacing on the frame -126mm? Is your hub 120mm? If so why fret over 3mm on each side? |
Buy a couple $.05 washers and get a new mechanic.
