Pk ripper

So i guess they are selling pk rippers for 500 on bd now. I was wondering if anyone is riding one around?

xkillemallx16 06-14-10 07:00 PM

decent price i guess. still not my taste though. single pivot brake?

youngandcurious 06-14-10 07:05 PM

Seems cool i like the super beefy tubing it reminds me of the old canondale track

$500 stocked with decent components, gussets, straight fork...this bike is ready for abuse...not sure if it can handle it though.

xkillemallx16 06-14-10 07:11 PM

aluminum is not ready for tricking. tbh it doesn't really look like a cannondale track either

Squirrelli 06-14-10 07:17 PM

It just looks like an oversized PK Ripper...it is basically an oversized BMX frame.

youngandcurious 06-14-10 07:17 PM

Woahhhh

We've got one at work. It's cool as a novelty but that's about it.

I owned a few looptail PK Rippers in the 80s when I used to race. They were ****ing awesome.

Lol instant mixte.....

TejanoTrackie 06-14-10 09:23 PM

Replace the top tube with bamboo.

Scrodzilla 06-14-10 09:30 PM

Ha!

Leukybear 06-14-10 09:44 PM

Come to think of it; this is unusual as BD usually sells in house brands (once renowned brands that faded and they picked up for cheap)..... how did they get SE stock?

Scrodzilla 06-14-10 09:55 PM

The shop where I work is a Fuji/SE dealer. The PK Ripper fixed gear isn't selling nearly as much as expected. Besides, Bike Island has been selling Premium Brew framesets for some time now (even their 'nickel-plated lugged frameset' is just a PB with a different finish).

Also, a lot of BikesDirect's bikes seem to be rebranded ASI (Fuji/SE/Breezer) bikes. There's got to be ties there somewhere.

f50fan 06-14-10 10:25 PM

Yeah, many places had advertised them as "limited", etc, but one of the LBS's here keeps putting them on sale every now and then. Seems like no one is really after them.

TeddyVarious 06-14-10 10:33 PM

ebay is also flooded with these dc pk rippers for around the same price

Yes there is. The secrecy of this tie is what keeps bikesdirect.com in business. Most of the bikes they have are GREAT bikes but its always sketchy buying a bike before you can throw a leg over it and without a warranty.

I see... thanks.

i like the stays.

i'd just like to say that a properly-built aluminum frame is not any more "unsuited" for "tricks" than steel. i've ridden numerous trials frames, all made of aluminum, as well as some mountain bike frames. i'm not saying there isn't something a little flawed with the design of the PK Ripper, but being Alum isn't it.

if i wanted to do tricks, i would get the 29" Big Ripper. if i wanted to just ride around, the PK Ripper should do fine.

well my initial thought to this is that the big ripper is a bmx bike designed for withstanding abuse compared to the ripper being a 700cmx and not being designed to withstand such abuse

Scrodzilla 06-15-10 02:19 PM

Exactly. The 700c "PK Ripper" is designed to look like a PK Ripper.

patthepunk 06-15-10 02:36 PM

looks more like a trophy than a bike

Scrodzilla 06-15-10 05:11 PM

Old-school PK Rippers were the **** back in the heyday of BMX racing. I miss those days.

Does BMX racing on a dirt track even still exist?
