Cinelli Vigorelli Build
Hey everyone,
My beautiful Cinelli Vigorelli in 54cm arrived last Friday and today has been the first day I've been able to look at it  it's gorgeous and super light...Ok this is where I need your help! Goal: Make this bike less than 15 pounds. What do you think of the following components: -------- Cinelli frame = 1420/560 g Miche Adv Crankset = 629g Miche BB = 280g Speedplay Light Action pedals: 348g Whells from Prowheelbuilder: FRONT WHEEL Rims: Mavic MAVIC OPEN PRO 700C BLACK RIM Hubs: Shimano SHIMANO ULTEGRA 10 SPEED FRONT HUB Spokes: DT SWISS COMPETITION 14/15/14 GUAGE SILVER SPOKES Nipples: Black Weight: 764.8 grams Price: $174.00 REAR WHEEL Rims: Mavic MAVIC OPEN PRO 700C BLACK RIM Hubs: SURLY FIXED FIXED SILVER TRACK HUB Spokes: DT SWISS COMPETITION 14/15/14 GUAGE BLACK SPOKES Nipples: Black Brass Black Weight: 946.1 grams Price: $185.70 ------------------ What are your recommendations for seatposts/stem/bars/tires/tubes/chain? Thanks everyone. |
The Vigorelli frame is pretty heavy for a weenie build...
|
yup, there are lighter AL frames out there but i know this can be done :) the biggest weight savings besides the frame are the wheels...and i think for the price I have a decent setup there...1710grams for the pair....yay or nay?
|
You do realize you have 4 pounds left...just get everything in carbon fibre and some latex tubes.
|
surley hub, heavy.
ultegra hub, pretty heavy. open pros, heavy. If you want light... novatec A291SB or formula RB-68 front hub, mack superlight rear hub, DT revolution spokes and kinlin XR-270 rims in 24f/28r. If you're under 60kg, go for kinlin XR-200 rims in 28f/32r. If you can afford it, AC micro 58 front hub |
^Listen to this man when it comes to wheels.
|
Loving that the Micro 58 is just 58g...but can't justify $100-130 for the hub....maybe someday! Thanks for the suggestions guys keep em coming :-*

AE0 knows wheels well, take his advise.
With that frame, you're gonna need as much carbon parts as possible. This is either going to take time, or get very expensive. Possibly both. |
My max budget is $1200 for components....maybe sub 15 pounds is too ambitious :D
How much do cogs/chains typically weigh? I rarely see weights posted for these items. |
What is the purpose of this bike? Track or street riding?
|
you can get novatec hubs from here: http://www.bdopcycling.com/
$35 for a road front, $30 for a track rear and $20 for S&H. although you might want to pay $3 more for the road front that has a skewer. |

on a related note, my rough math shows that a sub 6.3lb brakeless fixed gear bike is possible... evidence
Assuming you're building for the roads, I would focus not on weight but on durability and quality. Aim for something like 16 or 17 pounds, much more doable. Also, olympic and world championship riders are not riding bikes that light. Must be a reason. |
this bike will be 100% for the track
|
just get some nice steel njs frame and build it up with njs parts. you are not going to go faster because your bike is 6lbs. you'll probably start flying because its too light
|
Correct me if I'm wrong, I don't think that quick release wheels are permitted on the track. Also, UCI rule book says that a bike can not weight less than 6.8kg - 15lbs...not sure if that applies to track bikes though.
|
^Point taken.
If this is just for the track why not get tubulars? Also maybe a dura-ace or campy record or 75's instead of the Miche? With $1200 for just components you can really just pick parts you like and you'll be under budget. $380 crankset and bb, $300 for wheelset, $30 cog, $10 lockring, $30 chain, $100 saddle, $90 seatpost, $90 stem, $50 bars, $10 grips. Pedals not included thats $1090. With a little effort in bargain hunting that will go down, possibly quite a bit. |
pictures?
|
I'm pretty sure you can use bolt on skewers instead of QR skewers for track use.

I stand corrected, thanks AEO.

Photos of this bike won't do it justice. I saw a complete build parked/locked up during "Car Free Day" and I had to stop walking to take it all in.
Didn't really take much notice of FG/SS/Road bikes until I bought myself a cheap FG. Now the wife is complaining there is no safe place to go where I will not be oggling bikes. |
