Respect! Poor Ernesto Colnago will be rolling in his grave.

that colnago is dumb as it stands. it would be improved with an italian group or if it was fixed with drops, but the frame doesnt make my heart race anyway.

Don't need to; you can use a SS freewheel on a fixed hub.

I know you can thread on a freewheel, but since it'll be partially hanging off the hub, are there any potential problems that might come from that?

Sorry bout going off topic, but I have a quick question:

For awhile I've been tempted to get some decent 70's Road bike with a downtube shifter, and putting a pursuit bars(rb-021) on it, and using tt brake levers. Anyone tried this before?

I know this guy did SOMETHING like it, but I have yet to see someone with pursuit bars on a road bike.

Nah I plan to restore it to the way when it was handed down to me. Luckily I still have all the campy parts I stripped from it.

No.

OK, here's another question. I know that you take an old freewheel hub and re-space and re-dish it to make it singlespeed. Can you take a flip flop hub that's freewheel on one side and re-space and re-dish it so you can run a 7sp freewheel on the freewheel side?

You can do this if the axle is long enough to space the hub out to at least 126mm, and add more spacers on the freewheel side to account for the wider freewheel body on a 7-speed.

I've been running them on 126mm bikes already. The axles are hollow, so I could also cut off a few mm and run a quick release.

Is it possible to move the axle on a sealed bearing hub?

It depends on the hub. I managed to shift the axle on a Formula hub with cartridge bearings and I believe this is possible with most hubs that have fully threaded axles w/o fixed inner bearing shoulders.

MrCjolsen 07-07-10 10:12 AM

I asked the same question on the mechanics forum, and they said that the Dimension/Nashbar/Joytech/IRO/Godspeed/Fred's Hub Company hubs have a wider axle spacing than a standard geared hub.
