Time for a new chain
So it seems like i am going to be replacing my chain soon. Just wanted to know if anybody out there had some good suggestions or favorites that they would recommend.
One that matches the color of your bike of course.
I use an Izumi Economy Chain. Its about 25 dollars but, from my experience, is extremely reliable and well built
I am using, or will be soon as the bike isn't quite finished, the Miche Pista chain.
So, are you changing the chain because it is worn, or just because you want something different? If the chain is badly worn, you may need to change your cog as well.
i am changing the chain because it is worn and is starting to stretch. the chain isn't badly worn at this point but i will also be replacing the rear cog at the same time. as for chains i am just looking for something durable/reliable and resistant to stretching.
I've got a Miche Pista on one bike and a KMC Z510 on the other. I can tell no difference between them when riding.
SRAM PC-7X is real good, but so are Wipperman Whitestar and Izumi Eco, all for under $20. I don't like the way KMC chains are made and don't use them.
I like quiet chains. Sram PC7-X on my bike right now. Stealth.

Quiet chains are a combo of proper lubing, straight chainline, and quality components. not just the chain.
Roller design. Some chains just have a roller that is a touch too big for the pin and it's noisy |

What exactly do you not like about them?

Interesting.. I think I'll make the SRAM my next chain. I'm trusting you chief, only of course cuz u're a doctor.
My KMC chain is very quiet, despite reports that they can be loud. The wife's as well (and hers is pink). Everyone also talks of how weak they are but my fat ass hasn't broken one yet.
All my years of riding BMX I never broke a KMC, but they were very tinny sounding. KMC 510 was my staple.
Love my SRAM PC-7X. It's three years old and getting retired in a few weeks for emergency spare links. Three years is long enough to trust your life to a chain. |

broken chains are user error.

I do not trust my bike to an LBS except if I am lazy about wheel building.
User error is when humans are involved. Your LBS has humans I assume. They are not as fussy about your bike as you can be. You put the pin in sloppy, move on to the rush job that is that hot girl in pink shorts. Anyone who speciliazes in SS/FG is not a god. |
just got a sram pc1 and its great. i used to back the kmc z chains but this is much better constructed and feels a lot better. as far as wear/stretch i don't have any reviews because i haven't had it for more than a month and a half. so far i'm converted.

you need to do it yourself. Some shops let the rookies/interns/newbies do the easy tasks, and they could mess up if they aren't careful about it. |
i have the 17, and it blows my mind.
