Hey guys,
I was just wondering if anyone here has dealt with Continuum Cycles in NYC before? I;m looking for my first fgss and I was wondering how this shop is?

Continuum cycles makes some downright gunner bikes. They're pieces of work. Every bike shop around has its characters and usually high end bike shops tend to come with some unfound expectation of a certain high end clientele. Continuum is the exception. Take a look at their YELP reviews, its insanely rare to find a NYC bike shop with 5 stars. They're an extremely refined bike shop with sick bikes of their own but also an open door to anyone who needs some work done. I can really only think of one other bike shop that has as good of a review in the area, that being 718 Cyclery. It shows their dedication to the consumer. I'd definitely check them out if you have the cash and you're looking for a long term relationship with a LBS.

I called them up recently to inquire about a frame and they were extremely courteous and patiently answered all my questions. I say give them a visit.

I went to their shop on a trip to nyc a year ago. really cool guys working there, very nice. prices seemed in line for a metropolitan shop. their house-brand frame is really nice, i wanted to get one. when i asked they said they only sell them complete, but would contemplate framesets if you tell them what parts are going on it (what the guy working there said, they didn't want low end parts on there to keep the frame in high regard or something)

he hooked me up with a free tshirt, that was cool. would have bought their frame if i didn't get the deal i got on my peloton

That's where I take all my bikes for repairs and servicing. Super nice guys, nice albeit small collection of bikes, reasonable prices (for NYC).

Continuum is great. Just hang around the shop for a bit and you'll notice tons of regulars coming in for work, parts, or just to chat. It takes a well-respected shop to have that kind of community.

for most things in there, maybe, but give them a call, and they might be able to hook you up with something. i know they're a khs dealer, so you can always get something like a flite 100. iirc, they're about $500 complete

although his waxing poetic on fixed gear riding is a bit iffy, overall the way he describes how his shop is run makes me warm and fuzzy inside.

last time i was in nyc, an acquaintence of mine broke a spoke on his twisted spoke wheel. we rode to continuum (my first experience with the shop) and got there maybe 20/30 mins before they were supposed to close. they repaired the broken spoke in time, so we didn't keep them late, and while we kicked around waiting for the repairs, they were good guys to chat/talk shop with.

albeit my super limited experience with them, i vouch for the positive shop environment, and i definitely want go back and support them next time i'm in new york. furthermore, if you're looking for a first fg/ss, they supposedly won't sell bikes without a brake to first time riders (according to that interview from a year ago), which is pretty awesome/responsible of them.

Yeah, you may or may not be able to find the bike you want for the much. They do specialize in recycling vintage frames as well so you might find something you like. Worst comes to worst you can always get a very accurate estimate and then just save for a few more week till you get the money, it'll be worth it.

All of the vintage bikes are more expensive than their two entry level complete bikes--the Origin8 Uno and the KHS Flite.

Been here 3 or 4 times.
Its small with their main 'garage' a couple of store fronts down.
They stock a good amount of used parts in their garage so dont be afraid to ask for used parts.
My last vist I was lookin for some black Soma 2 gate clips.
None were on the racks so Bald dude manning the register takes out a bag of Soma toe clips empties it on the floor and starts searching..
Nope they out of it. I ended up getting the 4 gate clips even tho it wasnt what I wanted
since the guy went thru the trouble to search. :rolleyes: :lol:

Saw a Girl this weekend ridin their white Alum frame. Both sweet rides! :lol:
