Ouchh

Just went on the worst fixed gear ride of my life. My knees are killing me. I went brakeless like 2 weeks ago, is it just because my knees aren't used to skidding yet, should I just wait for it to wear off?? WHAT SHOULD I DO MY KNEES ARE DYING.

Complain about it on the internet. Oops...beat me to it!

Try not to skid? Is your saddle position correct?

Dr. Banzai 07-13-10 04:53 PM

What is your gearing and what is your inseam and frame size? Measure the distance from the center of the BB to the top of the seat. Report back.

It's really gearing and fit that kills knees.

skidding hurts my knees and I ride 63gear inches. Just put on a rear brake and skid with that

but really, I know lots of good riders that are brakeless and they hardly every skid.

Option 1: Put on some brakes.
Option 2: Keep on riding until you develop some massive quads.
Option 3: Skip stop.

my previous fg was 80gi (± 5) and it was brakeless. I skidded, but skip stopping was more efficient and less tiring. try skip stopping. :)

I ride 81 gear inches with no brakes just fine. Saddle height is critical of course.

Seriously, are your knees sore from riding and you feel it when you skid or is it from skidding? Find out.

likewise; back pedal and easing the speed.

Scrodzilla 07-13-10 06:12 PM

I do ride brakeless and never skid. My bike fits me, has a comfortable gear ratio and my knees are just fine.
