Brooks team professional. Not for me.
So to begin with. I'm 5'9 and weigh 135-138.
Pretty lean guy. I used to ride a lot of road. For years, and one day I gave up my road for fixed gear and haven't looked back. So...when I built up a new bike recently I decided to put on a Brooks team professional on it. Everyone gave it wonderful reviews so i thought hell. I'll pick one up. I used to ride the fizik arione, on all of my road bikes, and then on my first fixed gear. I realize that there is a long break in period for the Brooks team pro...but from the start I couldn't get into it. I've ridden several 100k and one 100k rides on my fixed gear as well as everyday riding. I tried every saddle position, pointed up, down, flat...even the seat post height and I just couldn't get it to work for me. My sit bones just didn't agree. It wasn't "gooch-tactic" or "taint-a-licious" enough for me..... I've ridden this brooks for a month. Maybe that's not enough time. BUT I've sadly got to put her up. My ass doesn't like it. This really sucks too because I personally think the Brooks is a beautiful saddle. And I'm really disappointed to see her go. Also, it's just insane to me how much the Brooks weighs. I'm used to 185gram saddle weighs. Maybe it's my roadie tendencies or a just what I'm used to....but she's gone on CL. And I'm putting a new fizik back on another rig. Such a beautiful saddle and my ass can't appreciate it. Damn you lower region!! Socks |
yeah...fukka brooks. they really aren't very comfortable at all.
I prefer: Specialized Toupe Terry Fly Selle Italia Flite |
My stock Bont "RAGER" seat seem to be fine.
Seat are make or break man. |
different asses different tastes.
ok that sounded wrong |

I disagree to the fullest extent of disagreement.
I have a Swift on my road bike that's been on there for a little over a year, and just put a Swallow on my fixed. The Swallow is hard, but it's much better on my taint than the stock saddle that came with my bike (San Marco Ponza). However, these are the only two (unsprung) saddles I can use from Brooks because they're the only two with the long rails. I had a B17 for a bit on my road bike, but couldn't get it in a comfortable position no matter how hard I tried. Turned out the rails were just too short for my tastes. |
I can see that, Billy Dee. I use Velo Orange Grand Cru seatposts that have a lot of setback, so the short rails aren't an issue.

Being your weight doesnt help either. ... stick with the arione, its a great saddle; I ride it on my bikes too.
On the topic of a brooks saddle; I'll have to go with what scrod said tho as the comfort is definitely worth the weight once you have it worn in. By the time you have one worn in you'll be attached to it. |

I just got a pro for my new fixie build, an old Lugged Lambert. I got the saddle from a friend who said it was like riding on a brick. 1st 23 miles hurt as did the second ride in the rain. I got Proofide with it and added a bunch of coats letting it soak in. I also angled the front up just a nudge. (very important) I got back from 15 miles and my ass feels great. I even rode with dirty cutoff jeans. It feels much like my B17 but the leather still isn't as soft. Its getting there. I did not have the Proofide for my B17 so I used neats foot oil to soften it. I would treat the leather, don't be shy it will darken it but thats when it gets softer. also it really helps to angle the front up a little.

i got rid of my brooks too, i rode that thing for over 100 miles and it would hurt like hell...back to my old saddle, it didn't flow with my bike anyways.
