Phil never rode the tour.

Is Romper Room off the air? Damn. I still have my magic mirror. I swear, nothings sacred anymore. No wonder people feel it acceptable to misbehave in something as clean, honest and gentlemanly as "The Tour". Now, I get it. This is the fallout. I'm writing somebody over this crap.

"Doing nothing wrong" is not the same as "Doing the right thing".

Or, as Gerard Vroomen said:
Contador just gained a great chance to win, but he lost the chance to win greatly.

You guys don't really understand grand tour racing, I guess.

That's cool, it's not for everyone.

but this is different. Schleck was in front of Contador when his chain failed. it would have been different if contador was in front. also i can understand stopping if he bumped him or somehow caused him to be delayed but it wasn't his fault. it was shlecks

We can debate whether it was Schleck's "fault", but...

That's fine. You're right that it wasn't Contador's fault, so I wouldn't have blamed Contador for continuing on. At the same pace he'd held for the last 18 km, where he hadn't attacked a single time.

What I fault Contador for is changing his strategy and making a point of attacking as hard as possible after Schleck's mechanical. He doesn't have to be classy like Ulrich and put a foot down to wait for Lance, but sprinting up the mountain to gain as much time as possible from the dropped chain? Dirty.

Ulrich. Now that was a guy that was a joy to watch. IMO he was the last of classic tour riders. After he retired everything became very mechanical and passionless. That's a guy I'd LOVE to see on a fixed fear. He's the type of guy who would drink a beer and skid ALL THE WAY DOWN the alps. With a BEER GUT!!!

oh, he can ride it..but now that he's not doping anyone can see that he had no chance to win it....

dsh 07-20-10 11:25 AM

You guys don't think it has anything to do with being 39 or crashing fifty times?

No?

Ok.

johnnytheboy 07-20-10 11:26 AM

no.

Nah just someone who is capable of rational extrapolation, unlike most of the "OMG HE SI A DOEPR" kids.

If DudeX can come out of retirement at 38 years old and podium while positively not doping, it's pretty reasonable to assume that he'd be pretty damn good at 30 (while also not doping). Rational.

makes sense to me. If you think that he's not doping now, then it makes sense that he could have won the tour in his prime years without doping.

Also, people hate on Lance for no reason. I am not embarrassed to say I'm a Lance fan boy. I find him inspiring and even personable for a pro athlete. Plus, he's from my hometown and lives in my current town...

Want to see childish behavior watch Romper Room. Want to see dishonest, malicious, low brow people justifying their behavior "because they have to" then go to work.

+1

Contador. Win the war. Lose your soul.

johnnytheboy 07-20-10 03:46 PM

he doped back then too...just didn't get caught....
he's got too many eyes on him now...
