2005 Pista

Hi, new member here. I've heard that the 2005 Pistas are arriving in store now. Has anyone seen one? What color are they? I'm hoping they are chrome again, I love those 2004s

The Bianchi rep was in our store yesterday. He said the 2005 pista was gonna be chrome with a white panel.

I've seen it, looks like it just has new decals to me.

Mine is on order right now. Bianchi told me they are due to ship the first week of October. It is the same chrome with a new decal (woohoo). As far as I know that is the only change for the 2005 and the price is the same as well. The big change for the Bianchi track bikes that I heard is that the "Pista Concept" is now going to be available as a complete bike, instead of just frame & fork, now directly from Bianchi with an estimated retail of $1400.

I'd be interested in seeing what components the concept comes with. It has potential to be a really tight complete if they do it right..

ugh.... why the chrome? I like the pistas, but I wont be buying one as long as they are chrome... I just dont trust keeping anything that shiney in the city.

here's what i hear from sheldon brown (the guy with the awesome website)

"Actually, we just started getting in 2005s, which look even nicer than the 2004s
They're chrome with a white band on the seat tube and down tube,
generally nicer graphics. They also now have a double/fixed rear hub."

anyone know what a "double/fixed rear hub" is?

Instead of a flip flop hub were one side is fixed and one side is free (as in freewheel) the double /fixed rear is fixed on both sides.

merztime 09-15-04 09:19 PM

which makes sense because I don't think Pistas come drilled for a rear brake - at least my '03 didn't

dgs 09-15-04 10:09 PM

When i was down in miami, John at business cycles made an interesting point: a fixed/free flip-flop is pointless. better to get a fixed/fixed flip-flop. That way, you have the option of putting a fixed OR free on the other side. Without that left-threaded lockring, you're stuck with a freewheel.

Please tell me they are changing that crome seat. That thing is so hideous.

i have to agree...while the chrome bianchi might look all shiny and nice on the website, it really isn't that aesthetically pleasing on the road or even on display in the shop.
maybe all that *bling bling* appeals to some people, but not to me. I was really hoping they'd come out with something nicer for '05.

I'm looking to buy a 2nd track bike when the 2005's come out. I loved the '04 pinarello pista maybe they'll impress me with their new model.

then again i should wait until after interbike to see what the shops near me find out, or wait and just go to t-town and hope for a sweet deal.

The Pacific Bicycle on 4th street in San Francisco has a ton of 2005 Pistas. Looks like the cranks are different, and the white panels are bordered by "World Champion" Rainbow colored stripes.

glomarduck 09-17-04 06:12 AM

is the paint job somthing like this?

I don't know why any of you are supporting the chroming of a bike. Chroming is one of the most horribly environmentally destructive processes used in the bike industry, right after Titanium mining. Bicycles are supposed to be a "green industry" that's why you should all feel proud to not create pollution and waste, chroming just ruins that. besides, chrome is ugly as F*ck and shiny things get stolen quicker.

x2mars 09-17-04 07:38 PM

no kiddin, huh....did not know that. the chrome one i saw looked great, but today a black pista with red lettering blew by me and my pedicab today on the park loop. the black with red was killer.

gen129ss 09-17-04 08:19 PM

I think the black is the '03 model. It is a much nicer looking bike. I think the black with the celest. green would look killer.

sxe fbm rider 09-17-04 08:47 PM

The 2003 is grey.. the black with red is 2002

Jose Cuervo 09-18-04 04:36 PM

You guys are nuts. I think the chrome 04's are beautiful. Bling Bling baby!

Cynikal 09-18-04 05:47 PM

Chrome is destructive? Cool, I'll run out and chrome everything on my Hummer!!! I'll stop at the store on the way home and fill the trunk with veal. mmmmmmmmm!

goatmeal 09-18-04 06:56 PM

Dont forget the first of the current pistas was black with celeste in 2001, that's a nice looking bike. Though I like the 02 red version the best, the chrome just looks cheesy.
