Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Chicago Riders: Ride This Sunday?

Absntr, 165 and I are planning on a mellow, meandering ride this Sunday. Grab some food, ride, hang out, etc. Anybody up for it?...the weather is supposed to be something like perfection itself.

I'll love to, but will be working the next four Sundays in a row. Rode up in Michigan yesterday on the Kalhaven Trail. Hopefully we can get out sometime this summer, or fall. Are you guys headed to the Hilly Hundred?

Are you planning on riding around any area in particular? Or just "meandering" all over the north side?

More likely the later, rather than the former.

I might be up for it, if it's like early-mid afternoonish. If it meets up north (thorndale stop)I have to bike ~20 miles to get there so maybe it could meet somewhere a little closer to downtown.

I'd like to see everyone's fix.

Paraleisure - where exactly do you live? If I go I would be driving up there, I may actually be procuring a bike rack from my brother on friday so I no longer have to stick my bike in the backseat. If you're not too far, maybe we can work something out - I'm in beverly, around 100th and Western.

I'm coming.

You can all (except absntr) finally meet me so I'll no longer be ignored. Not that it really bothers me. And I guess not posting doesn't really help that situation.

ryan, I'm coming up from hyde park if you want to meet somewhere.

sorry ryan, I didn't read your whole post. I didn't see that you were driving. If you were riding I would meet you somewhere.

We probably will meet closer to downtown, and definitely all the way up North.

Which brings up the question: where and what time?

I'm thinking around noon-ish.

I'm coming up from Hyde Park also. Actually I'm inside the UCPress building right now... Salome, do you work at Critical Inquiry? You must be a HPKer also. Maybe you own Dutch Courage? The intrigue...

I'd probably be down to ride up as long as it's not a rushed ride.

Hanin Elias and Bomb20 are worth checking out, too.

Well, I'll definitely be driving because thats a long freaking ride for me through some funky hoods. I'll post about the bike rack situation as soon as I know, probably on saturday morning - I don't know how many bikes it holds if both you hyde park guys want a lift.

Anyways, so yeah I'm most likely in, I just have to plan on being responsible and getting all my studying done on saturday instead...

I still am going, but...

I forgot I have an obligation from 1-6pm to which I can probably show up late. Hell, I am going to show up late.

I still would like to ride up. despite the digital hardcore temptation. actually it's not that tempting, I just love riding.

Hmm... I don't work at critical inquiry. And if my bike is named Dutch Courage it's news to me. Perhaps you have seen me riding around. I have a gator tied to my stem. It scares away all the punk UofC kids (sorry if you're one). You know there are a handful of fixed riders down here. Most are undergrads. There are a couple of grad students, one of which is a track superstar. Okay maybe not superstar but he definitely races.

Has the time/place been firmed up yet? I would prefer noon or earlier just because of prior commitments. Regardless, I probably won't be with you the whole time.

I used to keep a large plastic lobster tied to the outside of my car.
I still have it, but I think it would be a bit big and awkward for the bike.
