i do not know if it has been just a coincidence as of late but i have been seeing cars driving around with the good ol' fixie strapped on the bike rack. when i see these people in their cars with bikes strapped down, it just makes me think of how these people are into FG for the street cred.

while i'd like to give these people the benefit of the doubt, its hard when it has been super sunny and humid and not exactly pleasant weather to ride a bike.

no point to this thread really just more of an observation within the past couple weeks. is anyone else experiencing this same problem?

at the end of the day, i know my bike was actually ridden.

I've been seeing a lot more people on the bike path on my ride yesterday downtown the other day. Saw a few fixies.

I like to see the people ride the path home and not ride to the parked car and then go home.

well, recently I was dumped by my girlfriend of 4 years, kicked out of my apartment, and dog was lost to her in the mess. As a result I have stayed the last month or so at my mothers house while I sort things out.

Her house is 34 miles one way from where I work and go to school. It is possible to commute by Bike, but I think most people would think it somewhat impractical to ride a bike 68 miles a day just for work and school, and that doesn't include transportation to other events and social engagements.

So most days I strap my bike to my car, drive to work or school, and then ride to where ever between the two local cities, and then strap it back on the car and ride home.

I don't feel bad about that.

That said, I might sell my car when I move back to the city because I hate driving, and it's expensive. Plus between bikes and public transportation I can get where I need to year round.

God forbid people drive and bike. Good grief.

i wish i had a car for group rides that start twenty miles away.

I had my Pista on the rack today...drove 550 miles or so. And when I arrived at my destination...I took it off and rode.

My house is 50 miles one-way by car to my workplace. It takes 45min to 1-hr to get to work. I work 12.5-hour shifts on a 4-4/3-3 schedule. There are great roads, off-road areas, and dedicated bikepaths right outside my office. I slip my bike of choice (2-mtn, 1-rd, 1-fg) every day into the rear hatch of my commuter-car and drive to work. I do this so I can ride at least an hour after work out the office door IF my workday doesn't go past 12.5 hours. And I still gotta make that commute back to homebase. I don't feel bad about hauling my bike(s)....but I do feel bad when I don't get to ride. I just suit up, clip in, and ride out of the garage on my days off.

thats what I was thinking. Putting your bike on your car for street cred? I dont get the logic.

To get to the track, it's a 80 mile ride, not to mention that I like to go out to lunch and hang out with my friends in that city (And I don't lock up the track bike, only the beater)... If my driving there bothers you, I think you need to get a new hobby.

Street cred isn't for having your bike on the back of your car, real hipsters wouldn't drive one, street cred is walking across your campus with one, with a pant leg rolled up. =P.

I took my bike for a ride just the other day. I left my bike at work for a convoluted reason that included extended meetings, pool cues and beer. So, the next day I grabbed the ski hoopdie that just sort of lays around during this time of year, picked up the Steamroller, threw her in the back and took her out on the highway for an hour. She liked it.

trIndie bikes have become a popular accessory on cars at car shows. Roof racks mostly. Just thought I would share.

I do carry my bike to school to ride around campus. It's a 20 minute drive in what's possibly the hilliest city in FL so riding my bike is pretty much out of the question unless I wanted to be the sweaty bastard in class. I'm trying to move into a place downtown :\

Well, this morning I put my speedos on and rode 6 miles to the beach. Took a dip in the pond! Half an hour later rode home the long way, 9.5 miles. Changed shoes, threw a pair of shorts on (there are kids in the neighborhood!) and ran 2 miles. Came back took a shower and came into work. No point really, first time I did it, so I thought I'd brag! :)

Yeah, actually I do just put my fixie on the back of my Volvo for street cred. I'm pleased that you noticed.

My bike has been strapped to the back of my sweet 72 caddy coupe deville for so long now that the frame has rusted to the trunk. However i'm the only one that knows this....

maybe its just my area; you should see it.

who gives a F if people put their bikes on cars? i strap my fixed gear bike to my car because i had to move close for work and all my friends in oakland and san francisco are an hour and a half away. i drive my bike 45 minutes to the closest bart (train) and bart into the city with my bike to ride around with them and hang out.

WTF does transporting your bike have to do with street cred? do you really think people just strap bikes to their cars to look cool? like they put them on the rack then drive around in the city then drive back home and take the bike off??? lol

are you really judging people for driving a car? Sometimes you'll see me with a bike strapped to the roof of my Subaru. Probably b/c I'm driving out to a race or a charity ride or something like that. Don't judge...

Street cred is not giving a **** if some dork posts crap about you on the internet.
