That's what you get for not working graveyards...

:)

my week was three days long (lots of jewish teachers + powerful teachers union = four day weekend for rosh hashana).

nevertherless, since it was my first three days teaching in a NYC public high shool, it felt like two weeks.

Got denied on another job! I guess that's one more week of cycling and peebers for me!

MKRG 09-17-04 08:57 AM

I wonder if Merton is hiring...

HereNT 09-17-04 09:07 AM

What job were you denied MKRG? Whatchya lookin to do?

MKRG 09-17-04 09:15 AM

Believe it or not, all I wanted to do was a part time job selling books or music at Border's. I'm in somewhat of a transition because I don't want to go back into chemistry, at least not right now. The sad thing is that I can't seem to find a low paying, easy, monkey job! The second I what I used to do they look at me funny and tell me to go away. I'm going to try to get a job at the library now I think. They have a few part timers listed.

Look into printing - they are always looking for low paid monkeys. I'd recommend digital printing (I assume you are computer literate if you are a chemist) because people that can use computers are rare in that field...

Or...

You could become a self-employed chemist with a 'shop' in the basement... Depending on your skills, I might be interested in your wares... ;)

One thing I've found in my many times unemployed is that you really can be overqualified for a job, and that will turn an employer off. They will think that you won't be there for very long. They want someone who isn't ever going to want more - if you have already had better jobs, then they wonder : "How long will this guy last? 3 months? 6 months?"

It's kind of a conundrum that comes from finally escaping the fast food world - you can't really get a job doing fast food again. They want people that don't look higher than fast food...

Or Borders... Fast books, I guess...

If I had a nickel for every time someone said that... :roflmao: Maybe I'll just start a mobile meth lab. JUST KIDDING! Now the feds will be watching me

I used to hang out in the print shop at my old job and watch what went on. Definitely requires more thought than I'm into right now. It was pretty neat to see how all that works. The potential for mischief!!!

HereNT - Amen to that. Let all the night shift workers rejoice.

That past week was pretty much crap. Especially now that I need a new lock; thus the task for the weekend.

i agree, printers are always hiring. but why is that??? my wife does digi prepress and she gets way under paid for a employee with a top notch art degree. but on the other hand the place is geared towards “band printing” so its all skaters and punks who can listen to loud music and sport tattoos and green hair... in my opinion a “fun” environment is a big factor for finding a good job. as a self employed carpenter i often work at the wife's job running the cutter when my work runs low. talk about a mindless task...

This weekend my girlfriend's mom is visiting from the East Coast, and we're heading down to my parents' house for them to meet.

This is the first time I'm wishing I could just skip the weekend and get right back to Monday.

I got a bike tourer camping in my backyard from Minneapolis. I wish I had the courage to do that.
