Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Ha. I'm not an old fart. I'm 20. And I'm also not worried about dying. I'm worried about the effect my death would have on the people who care about me, so I take what ever precautions I can.

But not your chain though; that's not important. Also, I guess it's fine to ride brakeless if you're just scooting along a carpeted hallway.

Brakeless bikes are the best when your chain falls off and you can't stop. I sure hope your physiology allows you to be breakless when riding brakless, like that at least.

kid came into a shop I work at once, needing a new fork because he didnt understand that brakeless works for fg not ss. He also didnt understand how footbraking worked and put his foot on his front wheel.

Here in one of our local trails, a guy riding his even lighter than 20lbs time trial bike ran into a lady jogging who thought it would be wise to just do a U-turn without checking behind her, guess what happened when that lighter than 20lbs bike and rider crashed into her? Yeah she died from injuries sustained from that crash, and our trails are limited to a 20mph limit. So you ask what kind of danger can you be on a 20lb bike? How about ending someone's life, is that good enough for you to run a brake? Hell if you can't afford it send me a PM I'll ship one dammit!

Not trolling, cc700 has a point.

A risk is always present. I am not advocating brake or no brake, but that was a poor example, since brakes made no difference in that situation.
