Sweet.

I went on a group ride last night and there were some girls on hefty beach cruisers and they were holding their own with the fixie riders going up hill. People forget that despite all the great bikes and lighter weight frames, it's the rider that's the engine. I bet those girls would've left the guys in the dust if they were on the same bike.

I know a guy that got a Micargi, he got it because it looked like the Electra he had that was stolen. I think he paid close to $ 220 to have the Micargi shipped. What a nut, he could've picked up a Schwinn or Huffy over at the Wal-Mart for $ 75-150 and a can of flat black Krylon and came out with a better bike, if it had to be brand new. Anyway, his bike is ok for keeping up and the coaster brakes are low maintenance, I'd probably only go for a Wal-Mart bike for a beach cruiser.

Where the FG cyclist would leave the cruiser behind is at the bottom of the incline prior to attacking the hill and on longer flat land stretches. My friend rides his cruiser and he actually does quite well in shorter flat land rides, even where there are higher concentrations of pedestrians. But if the goal is the first or second half of a 30 mile loop, it doesn't take me more than a city block or two to establish the fact that he's going to be struggling to be in the same neighborhood when we both get to the end of that ride. I even feel like I'd be 10 minutes or so behind on an atb vs what I can do it on with a SS/FG. Just keepin' it real.
