Front Aerospoke tire sizing question/general tire question

So I got a new front Aerospoke. I swapped my 23c tire from my old Deep V I had on it. It took no more than 22 minutes for the front tube to go flat. Does anyone run 23c on a aerospoke? I'm guessing all the weight + 23 = bad idea? I have a set of 28c that I think I'm going to use instead. Any suggestions? Also any good puncture resistant tubes? Holy ****, I'm on like my 4th flat in less than 2 weeks. This city has too much debris in the bike lanes.

If you are getting that many flats in two weeks, you might want to check the inside of the tires for rocks/glass/debris.

Also, are you using a pump with a gauge so you know what pressure you are pumping it up to?

aerospokes are heavy but come on...

there is no reason you cant run a 23 on an aerospoke. our tandem when i was growing up ran 700x25 tires and it was a 40lb bike with two riders that averaged 200lbs

for the most part, tubes are tubes. either regular tubes, at regular prices, or low weight "race' tubes at higher prices.

As for running 23s on errorspokes, I don't have one, but I've known people who run 23s on theirs with no problems. Weight isn't that much of a problem unless its pinch flats. and in that case, make sure your tires are up to proper pressure.

as for puncture resistance, that's all in the tire. DO NOT ASK HERE! please search, there are plenty of good tire threads, with all information included for running front, rear, commuting, skidding, etc...

Thanks for all your help. Honestly I ocerexaggerated (edit - wtf did I even type haha) it a bit. I only got like 2 flats. Aerospoke being the newest one. Probably tire wasn't at proper pressure imo. Stupid mistake

I was mainly curious because the majority of people I see with aerospokes seemed to run 25c or 28c.

i had tried a pair of aerospokes on a single before hipsters knew what fixed gears were and i felt they required a 700x23 at at least 120psi. they are so slow and flexible the last thing i would want it a slow and forgiving tire.

I did 3 flats in 3 months. 2 were pinch flats. Got a patch kit and a pump with a gauge and I've been riding the same patched tube since.

Check to make sure there's no spokes protruding from the the nipples.

I run a 23 on my Aerospoke with no problems at all. Rubino Pro at 120-140psi.

Heavy yes, but are they *really* that flexy? Everyone talks about them like they're wet noodles. Maybe it's more apparent with one in back, but I haven't noticed any significant flex with mine up front. It's definitely way stiffer than lightweight road wheels I've had up front before, which would flex like mad if you breathed near them.

laterally they are really flexable. i had to open my front brake WAY up or it would rub on fast climbs or sprints. my current campagnolo eurus wheels are WAY stiffer and WAY lighter

Interesting. I wonder if I got a stiffer one somehow or if I'm just not heavy enough to make it do its flexy thing (160 lbs).

The vintage may be a part of it. Mine is a year old or less.

How much heavier are Aerospoke wheels compared to let's say a Velocity Deep V or B43 with hub and spokes.

i can not find an official weight, but i did see two sites listing a clincher front aerospoke at 1420g (tubular is somewhere around 1200g)

to put this in perspective, my clincher road wheels come in at 1560g.(rear wheel is 30mm deep with a 10spd freehub and the front is 20mm deep) the front alone is 695g. thats less than half the weight. they are also MUCH stiffer and WAY better in crosswinds.

fugazi dave, have you had your aerospoke up to 37-45mph? when i tried them at these speeds that had an unstable feeling like they had poor runout.

I've had mine probably 35 mph+ in some mean ****ing sprints and descents around here, and it's been nothing but smooth and stable. Also no problems with it doing dumb cornering in traffic dodging cars, peds, etc. Weight aside, I really have zero complaints about it.
