My first fixed gear.
1982 Austro-Daimler Inter10
42:17 ratio. I love it : ) http://www.u.arizona.edu/~bameyer/bike/1.jpg http://www.u.arizona.edu/~bameyer/bike/2.jpg http://www.u.arizona.edu/~bameyer/bike/3.jpg http://www.u.arizona.edu/~bameyer/bike/4.jpg |
Nice, I think that thing would look beast with some very deep and sexy track bars. Those old school road bars are just so petite; no reach and drop.

Brian from Chabot Elementary School?
|
Front brake would be nice if the rear tire ever flats.
Very nice bike, unique. |
are those forks rusted? very nice bike though, but its a little strange to have toe clips on one side and not the other (not sure on the reason for that).
|
well their bike is only geared on one side so you only need one toe clip, see?
|
Nice ride. I can't quite put my finger on it, but there's something very classic about the shape of the frame and the color. I can't tell if the fork is rusty or if it's actually stripped. In either case, I would sand down the rust with a little bit of sandpaper, prime and paint over it to keep it from kiiling you. Then again, AZ is dry so maybe it's not much of a concern. I would do the same on the frame.

I would try a bit of steel wool on the front fork - cleaned my pitted fork up to a very nice finish in just a few minutes. Very cool bike though, very.
|
Yeah, steel wool will work well too, just be careful not to scour the metal too much or it will show up under the paint as swirls.
I figured out what I like so much. There's a really nice depth to the original paint. It goes from a deep brown to a nice coppery color. Very nice and something you wouldn't see on a bike today. Not flashy enough. |
Good choice for a fixed gear. If you want to skip/skid you won't have the problem with shifter bosses on the downtube.
Pretty bike. I like the color. |
Thanks for the tips. I actually stripped it all the way down. It had a very nice metalic shine, but I never put a rust protector on it, thus it's rested. I haven't minded so much because it kind of matches the color of the bike. One toe clip = the result of riding down a mountain and using my back foot as a break. The clip freely spun on the ground until it got ripped off. I also plan on putting a front break on, as I've almost died already. I do want to put those mustache style bars on it. I'm not sure what they're official title is. Also, what are track bars?
|
The paint on the bike is very lovely. It's hard to see from the pictures, but the sun has put a really nice wear on the paint. It goes from almost purple to brown to copper to a light copper.
|
Mustache bars are called mustache bars. :) Track bars are super deep drop, large swoop forward. They're basically designed for a super aero position in a velodrome. I've never ridden them before, but I don't know that they convey any advantage off-track, more of an aesthetic and soul kind of thing. No reason to throw them on a street-fix conversion.
Random track bike with track drops: http://www.bikecult.com/works/archiv...ectrumTKD.html Moonshot: ouch! Don't remind me! My Fuji fixed conversion has downtube shifter bosses. The first time I went for a skid I totally messed up the insides of my thighs. Doh! |
