Wheel recommendations

My son was T-boned by a car a few days ago (written up on the over 50 forum) and miraculously did fine except for some nasty cuts and bruises. He rides a BD Motobecane SS/FG, which also seemed to hold up well. However, the wheels were trashed and I need to replace them.

What would you boys recommend? I'm interested in function over form, and something that is reasonably inexpensive.

Thanks.

Formula hubs laced to mavic cxp 22's... you can find them below than $150 here: http://www.velomine.com/index.php?ma...ath=87_172_178

Velomine has lots more combos if that doesnt fit you. They're pricing is great and support is aswell.

EDIT: Basically what seau said but with more detail.... bloody pigeon beat me!

Hope your son recovers quickly and hope the frame is still completely sound too.

all velomine....what have we turned into bfssfg??

Well-informed consumers? There's plenty of great wheelset options on there, I just have a thing for SunRims. They are no bull****.

im using a set of tec9's, a dude sells them on ebay for 100, they're great for mashing, and their pretty solid

Anything from velomine. Its all good. Pick anything within your budget.

The Weak Link 08-23-10 05:10 AM

Velomine it is. Thanks all.

So what kind of tires do you like?

mihlbach 08-23-10 07:35 AM

Tire choice depends on a lot of things, but for a good all purpose road tire I'd go wtih gatorskins, unless your kid is skid-happy, then just whatever's cheap.

NinetiesKid 08-23-10 08:07 AM

gatorskins

armadillos

grand prix 4000

panaracer pasela tg

For tires I just ride what is cheap. Conti Ultra Race hold up surprisingly well for the low price. They suck in snow, but I don't think that you get much of that in Kentucky.
