Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Formula Hub, Surly Cog, Surly Lockring

What side of the lockring are you using?
Per Surly you should only use the lip side of the lockring if the cog overhangs 1.5mm.

I installed mine with the lip towards the cog and all seems fine, but I have yet to be able to ride hard as I'm still recovering from injury...
It seems to engage more threads with the lip facing in, but I'm not sure the cog over hung a whole 1.5mm

Just wanted to see if anyone else was using the same combo and which way they placed their lockring.

ya i had the exact same setup for a little while. Lip facing cog was how I did it. I'm not convinced that the lip does anything, though. I think it's just a gimmick.

I have it the same way. Not sure if it hung out quite that much either, but the lockring mated up great and has stayed snug. I've had the same combo as you for over a year now and no issues other than the usual preventative maintenance tightening.
