Mercier Kilo TT question
 

so i recently purchased a 2010 kilo tt pro (completely stock) and have questions about upgrading some components. go easy on me since i am new to cycling. i have utilized the search button but failed to find my question.

basically what i want is a classic quill stem but as you guys may know the kilo tt has a threadless fork. my question is whether or not this problem can be solved by simply purchasing a new threaded fork or would i have to get custom threads added to my steerer tube as well at a lbs?

You'll need to get a new threaded headset and you could get your fork threaded or buy a new one.

You'll be hard-pressed to find someone capable of (or willing to attempt) threading a fork that isn't already partially threaded. You'll need a 1" threaded fork and headset.

just to clarify, so i can just stick a threaded fork up my steerer tube without altering it?

Steerer tube is what is on the fork, the tube you are thinking is the head tube.

As many of us said, you'll need a threaded headset in order for you to use a threaded fork, otherwise there will be nothing holding onto your fork if you use a threadless headset.

You can stick a threaded fork up whatever you'd like.

depending on.. i believe different sizes kilo have different clearances (correct me if i'm wrong) so fenders that fit on a 56cm kilo might not fit on a 50cm kilo. Unless u get those clip on half fenders.
Half fenders, without full clearance might work better. Or ultra narrow fenders..

why bother? it will cost you money and be heavy.....

well i am trying to figure out the best way to get a decent SS bike for not much $$ for this upcoming Chicago winter. BD seemed like a good option.

I would need a rear rack and fenders on front and back. any ideaS?

Kilo WT a little nicer, components-wise.

Actually, the biggest difference is the frameset. Kilo WT is like a Kilo TT with better tubing, fork, welds, paint, made in Taiwan; whereas the Windsor is much lower grade and made in China. The wheels and cranks on the Kilo WT are much better quality than the Windsor, but the rest of the components are similar quality.

is it right that the kilo wt does not have the capability to have a rear rack and fender ? i am probably a size 53.

would this depend on the tire size at all? if so I am thinking of going with a wide tire probably 700x35 or so?
