Quality ladies backpack?
 

I'm searching for a backpack to use on my commute (and the occasional grocery or beer run). One thing especially concerns me: the front chest strap. If it has one, it'd be nice if it sat low or very high (or could comfortably be adjusted so).

Recommendations? Any female Baileyworks backpack or Mission Workshop Rambler owners care to weigh in?

I (a male) really like my Camelbak pack. It's big enough to haul a bunch of stuff and still has the 1L bladder for water/gatorade/juice/beer(? probably not a good idea lol). I'm pretty sure they make several nice ladies models that you could check out.

My timbuk2 backpack works great and very comfortable. No chest strap but the straps don't fall off ur shoulders so it's a non-issue.

I second the Timbuk2 (hemlock). No chest straps but stays in place, it would be nice for additional weight displacement, but unless you're carrying a really heavy load then it isn't a huge problem. I got mine for >$50 shipped.

My friend's wife loves her Dueter pack. Not sure of the model but I can ask.

the only problem i have with the timbuk2 hemlock is that it tends to get kinda sweaty. But the comfort is amazing. Heavy objects weigh nothing with that backpack. And summer is ending so sweaty back shouldn't be an issue much longer :D

Okay, I'm going to look for a timbuk2 to try on. I was only looking at cycling-specific bags but as long as the bag is big enough, the prospect of buying only one bag for commuting and hiking is pretty appealing.

depends how big is 'big enough' for you. The timbuk2 hemlock is definitely not as big as a hiking bag, but it does carry a whole lot while still providing comfort and pretty good weight distribution on your back. I carried several pieces of 8x30" wood and some tools last weekend in the hemlock on the bike with no discomfort.
