Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Not a whole lot. If you really dig it, I'd offer $150 and not pay over $200. However, Ann Arbor prices may be different then Chicago. Here, that would be a reasonable offer.

Retro Raleigh Professional Track 53cm - $200 (German Village)

https://columbus.craigslist.org/bik/2691040128.html

This is a late 70's Raleigh Professional Track Frame. It is a very rare color scheme, with the two year only "block" lettering. It's built with Reynolds 531, and what I believe to be Bocama lugs. Whatever they are, they are very nice. The frame also comes with a period Campy headset. I always though I'd never sell this frame, but I'm getting out of the fixed-gear game due to knee problems. Let me know if you'd like to pick it up.

I did my undergrad work at GVSU. I don't know about CL but there was always a good barter market for parts and frames and what not on campus. At least amongst all the kids I knew at the art school.

So I know very little about bikes in general but I am looking to build myself a fixie for around ~400-500 using mostly used parts off of CL. I don't really know all the components, nor do I know what stuff I should buy new and not go cheap, but I was just wondering if something like this used Cinelli bike frame on CL would be a good foundation for a fixie.

Apologies for the lack of knowledge, I have just recently become more interested in riding bikes and working on them. Just lurking these forums over the last couple of days has helped me a lot.

I think it would be a pretty rough first build unless you have some help. It's hard to tell in the pic but since it's welded and has internal brake cable routing I'm going to guess those rear dropouts are vertical, so you'll need to find the magic ratio or get some eccentric action goin' on. If you've a really cool, helpful bikeshop around they might be able to help you out, but with the frame coming in at $180, a nice complete would be tough to get under 500 including parts and labour.
