Keirin/Clamp on Brakes

Ugly as hell? Or is it just me? I just got mine in the mail and feel like drilling the fork now.

longjohns 09-13-10 07:07 PM

lol i have a set on my bike. i didnt buy it to look pretty though.

I think the NJS stamp will implode if you drill the fork.

Ya, I was scared Mr. Nagasawa would come to my house with his samurai sword if I drilled it.

after i have been riding on this keirin brake i realized how flexy they are. just have to get used to stopping a little earlier...

what do you mean flexy? which one do you have?

bryle 09-13-10 07:37 PM

I have the EAI/Promax aka just Promax one from Ben's Cycle. My fork is a bit wider than both the oval and round clamps they provide so I had to alter it by rearranging the clamp. With that there is a bit of flex, movement at the joints and it's a bit sketchy. But its just an extra safety measure for me. I do wish I had bought a new fork instead of getting this brake.

This is how i had to set mine up. The worst is with Ben's, once you mount it, you can't return it. That's a problem if you need to mount it to actually figure out if it fits...

longjohns 09-13-10 07:52 PM

same kit here. my fork is a kazane and it fits perfect with the round clamps. im fine with the brake setup. i havent noticed flexing at the clamp but more so in the bracket.

Yeah, I might have my terminology mixed up. Yeah not at the clamp but if you see in my above photo, at that joint.

so you had to flip the front section to get it to fit? i think thats one of the main parts that adds to the little stiffness it has.

bryle 09-13-10 07:58 PM

Yup. That was the only way. Any photos of yours fitting fine in the correct manner?

Edit: Good call, I could probably just cut the tips off so it does hold onto the fork clamps.

longjohns 09-13-10 07:58 PM

after looking at your photo maybe you can shorten that section you flipped over a little and turn it back around. you might gain some stiffness that way...

bryle 09-13-10 08:03 PM

I believe that little section is also inplace to prevent the bolt from directly coming in contact with the fork. Which is does in my case, and I fear turning it too tight incase it dents the fork...

I dont think they look bad at all.

ichitz 09-14-10 08:00 AM

i don't have flex issues. I use the dia-compe ones tho. Will post pics later.
