BMX cranksets?

would you guys recomend using a bmx crankset rather than a tack/fixed gear specifis set. im converting an old Ross 10 speed and want to know if these babies will work.

how long are they? i would recommend not running cranks longer than 170 if this bike is going to be fixed.

yeah, i dont plan on anything bigger than 170

I've got some cheap Dotek BMX cranks on my older fixie. They are serviceable. It was strictly a budgetary decision, but hasn't adversely affected my ride.

I got the ubiquitous Bulletproof cranks on my main ride. Alloy, reasonable light, built beefy so they handle tons of abuse (hey, they're BMX), not too expensive. It limits me to 110bcd stuff but as long as you're not specing out high-end track rings you can get generic rings that will fit just fine. If you get a set of track cranks you may get suckered into one of the track-specific spider spacings which will make it more difficult finding rings at all, nevermind cheaply.

My other ride features a Sakae road crank, 130 bcd, also works fine. Both are 170mm and it's alright but I do maybe wish for a 165.

I've got the Bulletproof BMX cranks on my conversion. They are available in many lengths; mine are 165. Cheapo Rocket chainring rounds out the package. A few minutes with a sharp razorblade and the cranks no longer advertise Bulletproof in huge block letters. They're not as pretty or as light as the track cranks on my other bike, but they get the job done with small cash outlay. With the ring on the inside and a square taper 107 BB, the chainline is about 41, which is right where my cog sits.

I have abmx cranks and a bmx bottom braket on the way that will both be on my fixie. My frame is super super crap so I have to do that for now.. but wil hopefully be able to buy an allright bike by christmas time..

actually i have a non-threaded bb the same size as a bmx bb.. so I just tapped the bmx cups into it. But, there is a newer bb in bmx called a "euro" bb and its smaller and threaded.. but i dont know it the threading would match up with a road bike bb shell or not. I ended up hooking up 3 piece cranks, a chainwheel, and a bb for like $60 with the bmx parts.
