Leather/padding coming off saddle

I have a Selle Italia SLR and the leather/padding has started peeling off on the edges, where the saddle gets wider/where my butt rubs. It's to the point where the edge of the plastic is poking out the side. Is there any way to prevent this from getting worse?

You could use tape but I'm sure it'll be ugly as hell.

Does it have a carbon shell?

Well....you could strip everything off if it has a carbon shell.

Yes, it has a carbon shell. I wonder how effective the minimal padding is anyways...

I was thinking of having my lady friend fabricate a cover out of some sort of cloth, but the question there is how to attach it to the saddle. Another option, as zonatandem mentioned, would be to use some sort of adhesive (I was thinking more along the lines of epoxy or something...).

I've thought about doing this too, as I have a couple old saddles lying around that have lost their outer cover but are otherwise good. What kind of cloth would be satisfactory to cover a saddle in? I'm sure it could just be glued or something if it was wrapped around the bottom.

Would super glue make the padding all hard and solid?

If I were to use some sort of glue, it'd just be to seal the edges that are peeling to keep them from worsening.

there is always fabric glue. Not sure how well that works on saddles tho. On other things, it's fantastic.

Have you ever let a big blog of Elmer's glue dry? It's still flexible when it dries. That's kind of what I was thinking, but in a more durable form.

Any more ideas? Or do you all just throw away your saddles when they get worn? Haha.

The best thing to use is leather contact cement like Barge. Those other glues that have been posted will crystallize the leather and cause it to rip around the edges where it has been glued. Go to a craft supply store, they will have what you need. If you need anymore info on how to use it I would be glad to help I ran a leather/shoe repair shop for 5 years and used to do this kind of thing all the time.

So will this leather contact cement work in bonding leather + padding + carbon (more or less, plastic)?

If so, that'll be perfect!

Looking for the thread on how to reupholster saddles, if I remember, it was an SLR. The guy just ripped everything off and put on some suede or something, stapled it on.

Yup. As long as it is applied correctly, tacky to the touch on both parts you want to bond and apply as much pressure as you can when joining the two

Awesome. I'll give a bit of thought to what process I would like to use. If I recover it, I might just use the 3M adhesive spray as suggested, or follow something similar to this:
