Kilo TT or TT Pro?

So I'm relatively new to the biking world, and I'm looking for my first fixed gear bike:

It was suggested I get the tt from some friends who are moderate bike enthusiasts, so I looked into it, but upon doing so I found the pro.

Is it worth the extra money? From bikesdirect.com it's only like $50 more, but I really have no clue what makes it better besides the nicer colors.

But would this even be a good first bike? The tt seems to be the standard.

Thanks for any advice.

Better welds, true track geo, better wheels, better crankset, comes with brakes.

Yes, its very much worth the extra $50.

If you're going to be riding the bike stock, go with the TT Pro. If you're going to be doing a bunch of "upgrades" right out of the box, no real need to spend the extra money.

Standard Kilo TT and Pro are the same exact frame, BTW.

yay, now we have a credible answer haha.

if you really want to go nuts, you could always order just a frame from bikeisland
but seeing how this is your first fixed, i guess go for the pro. and ride your heart out.
or maybe consider... the mark v complete. its only 400 now. not too much more than a kilo pro.

Wow, thanks for all of the input guys.

Building up from a frame does sound pretty intriguing, but I'll leave that for my next bike.

So I guess I'll go for the pro, I can't seem to find that mark v listed anywhere...

Would the stripper edition be the middle ground between the pro and the standard tt?
Because those look pretty fresh as well.

IRO prices are going up, seemingly as we speak. I purchased a Phoenix a little over a month ago at $479. It's now $599. Now I'm even more happy that I didn't go with the Kilo. Sometimes you eat the bear...

Yeahh, the IRO is just a tad bit over budget for me. I'll end up with a version of the tt I'm sure.

My room mate and I got bikes around the same time, he got a Pro and I got a Stripper off Craigslist.... lol

Anyways I kinda wish I had the Pro, but ONLY for the wheels, everything else is fine so far to me if that helps at all

Sweet. Well, I'm thinking the Stripper, since it seems to be a decent balance between the pro and standard. Plus it comes in some sweet shades. I just can't find a picture of the green for the stripper, I think I heard somewhere that it's not the same as the standard tt green, but I can't find any evidence.

Thanks for all the input guys. It's a pretty sweet forum.

I don't think theres a green stripper, unless you decide to buy the frame seperately. In that case,

if you repack the hubs that come with the kilo tt or stripper you wind up with a lot nicer wheel than it first seemed, i wouldn't say it's comparable to DA or anything but it's definitely worth the 10 minutes it takes to clean and repack a hub

I'll definitely keep that in mind. I'm going to go check out this vintage bike shop just to browse, but if nothing decent shows I'll be repacking some kilo hubs in the near future
