Toe Overlap- How many people actually have problems with this on a daily basis?

Well maybe not on a daily basis because people in here barely ride, but who has it happen to them alot?

Just curious to hear what people have to say. I see a lot of complaining on the boards about their clips hitting the tire. I know it depends on what size frame you ride and the geometry of your ride, but seriously who cosiders this a problem, or experiences it alot?

I personally barely ever hit my front tire, and its almost like I have to try and get it at the right angle for them to touch. This is on a bike with true track geometry, yet it is a 60cm.

So who gets annoyed by it or feels like it happens to them alot?

Why ask us? We barely ride.

My Leader 722 - and even my wife's 51cm 722 - have no toe overlap at all. Zero. Zilch. Nada.

Ride your bike instead of trying to hit your front tire with your foot.

Way to open the post by insulting the masses. Good approach.

I never have an issue with overlap... but I'm riding old conversions.

Tomo_Ishi 10-21-10 08:52 AM

I got about 2cm overlap. But that doesn't pose much problem. It forces me to take slightly gentler turning radius, but you can get use to that. That made me do less quick turns and maintain steady steering.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzinger! My toe rubbed against my tire once this morning. Nothing happened, but I was already kinda depressed so it pissed me off a little.

The only time I really experience toe overlap is on my geared road bike, when starting from a foot-down stop.

Which is because I tend to ratchet my foot out to 90 degrees (most likely to encounter toe overlap) and have 175mm cranks.

xavier853 10-21-10 09:13 AM

My Tommaso has no toe overlap by like a millimeter. I got Medium size clips, and put the clips on the inside of the pedal to avoid it.

Happy :)

WickedOne513 10-21-10 09:14 AM

I have some with my killo but I also use clip less instead. I usually only notice it when on campus because I ride slower there as trying to weave through the people.

56cm fuji track pro = no toe overlap

So I think you guys are a bunch of jokes and all you care about it showing off your bikes, but I have a serious question for you...

cab chaser 10-21-10 09:31 AM

I haven't thought about this in years. I think I might have had some toe overlap when I was riding cages but I assume none now (clipless). I don't think my toes have touched my front tires in years.

You're obviously not trying hard enough.

ichitz 10-21-10 10:10 AM

i ride too fast to have toe overlap issues.

Scrodzilla 10-21-10 10:13 AM

Nothing says "instant downer" like a bunch of overachievers. I need to pick up a frame with tighter geo to see if I can fix my no toe overlap issue.

prind0 10-21-10 10:14 AM

Have a ton of overlap with my 44cm Kilo and large toe clips, but it's actually not a problem unless I'm messing around doing tricks/going slow when playing polo.

HardyWeinberg 10-21-10 10:16 AM

I am routinely creeping along at 5 yr old pace so I sometimes have enough toe overlap to twist my foot onto the front wheel or fender to hold the damn bike upright.

avner 10-21-10 10:16 AM

Sometimes when its dark and no ones around I like to touch my front tire.

peach-picker 10-21-10 10:47 AM

toe overlap

my pista has a little, my kilo has ALOT, and my masi have about enough to just touch the leather trim on the clip. all my bikes have small mks clips, the only time i really notice it is when i am trying to ride backwards which is rarely, im more of a trackstand kind of guy! :p and i do ride daily, and not at a snails pace!

qfmft.

My commuter has overlap and I've never had a problem at all despite riding it nearly everyday.

longjohns 10-21-10 01:41 PM

my 52cm kazane has a bunch of overlap. never really been a problem.

Scrodzilla 10-21-10 01:51 PM

I can't believe how many of you guys are so bad at toe overlap. What kind of place is this?

caloso 10-21-10 01:58 PM

Toe overlap? Is that what kids are calling camel toe these days?

Bone Machine 10-21-10 02:02 PM

No toe overlap 'cept when I'm wearing my clown shoes.

adriano 10-21-10 02:26 PM

i stay getting toe overlap on the daily.
