Why it's not a good idea to completely chop your steerer tube
We've heard all the usual reasons why it's not a good idea to completely cut down the steerer tube after adjusting the bar height to where you want it. Like, you may change your mind and want to raise the bars or maybe raise the stem and then flip it to look cool. Or maybe, you may have a hard time selling the frame in the future. Well, I've found another reason as shown in the attached pics. I originally had two 5mm spacers on top of the stem and was kinda thinking about cutting the steerer tube to eliminate them when I found this neat bell that mounts to the steerer tube with its own special 1cm spacer. Neat, huh?

Thanks. I got it from Velo Orange and it is stamped "Universal Spring Bell", but IDK if that is a brand name. The mount and bell are separate parts, so you can order it any way you want, such as handlebar mount or threaded headset mount. I have a similar bell on the flat bar of my Moto Messenger.

Dont even get me started on steerer tube length. Im sure most of the people in SSFG who cut their steerer tube did it purely for looks. Not to mention its all people have to say when they see my t1 with the stock length, which I will be selling shortly.

Dude, what is wrong with you? Enough of your implications that everyone here is an idiot. We get it, you're above everyone because because.
Back on track, those bells look and sound amazing. I need to get a 1 1/8" spacer mount so I can install the one I've got on my Leader.

I wonder what the aluminum version sounds like? I can't imagine it sounds as good as the brass one..

Am I wrong? Should we start a poll for the reason behind SSFG members running 0-5mm of spacers?
I consider myself a more contributing member to this forum than the clowns who post random images(not a poke at scrod but to others who never help with members questions) and reply with the most pointless, least helpful response they can think of JUST to look funny. So I guess in a way I feel "above"
I think its funny because people call me a troll and dont like me because I speak the truth.
SSFG is more like a fashion section than function.

Speaking the truth is fine, just don't be a complete ******* in the process. Not everyone here is guilty of your charges.
If you'd like to carry on this conversation, please PM me so we can keep it out of TT's thread. Thanks.

I haven't been following the forums as closely recently, so I'm not really sure on all the details, but gt35, why would you continue to post in a forum that you seem to hate so much?
We need TT to come in here and make his usual comment about male appendages.
As for the actual topic, cool bell! Never thought about the steerer tube as a place to put stuff.

it seems like every post out of you has some sort of negative connotation. if you want to be a jerk do it someplace like tarckbike.com.
i havn't really ever seen you be helpful, but i have seen you hate on others and start long arguments over BS.
if you want to be helpful then do it without acting like a jerk. seriously, its just a bike forum chill the F out.

Thanks. As to the saddle, the stock one is really comfy and has some neat embroidery so I'm hesitant to change it. Otherwise, for sure I'd go for a brown (honey) Brooks Team Pro like I've got on my Kilo WT.

Thanks Deshi. I'm sticking with the stock saddle for the reasons in my previous post. As for bar tape, I used to have leather tape on previous bikes and didn't like it, but maybe it's changed since then. I've taped my bars with Easton Velo foam tape, which I have on my Kilo WT and like a lot, but unfortunately it does not come in a brown color. So I've stuck with black for the time being, which is neutral and doesn't look dirty.

TT, the saddle does look nice. I know when I tried a test Silverado, it didnt work with me at all. LOL.
I understand the preference in bar tape. I hate gel tape but love thin stuff like the Fizik and those sorts so its all good.

I want one of those bells. I also want my damned bike back but that's a story for a different thread... I just so happen to have two spacers above my bars. I may replace one with that bell.
Also, gt35built, GTFO dude. This is a great forum and I for one am glad I have a resource such as this at my fingertips. When you're with your friends and one of them asks a question, no matter how stupid or relevant, does everyone in the group respond with well thought out, poignant, and relevant responses? Probably not. Someone cracks a joke right? That's what those little images you're so against are. If you hate BF so much stop coming.
Everyone else: Thanks for your input and advice. This forum is great. Sorry about the rant up there. I felt it necessary.
