I want to hurt them...
Here is the scene: In Philly (or any city i imagine) The traffic light still green at my (or all) intersection. Throngs of pedestrians, with their don't walk sign still engaged, look in my direction FOR CARS only apparantly, dont see or hear me despite my flashy bike lights and gym teacher whistle. I am suddenly, unexpectedly, bobbing and weaving thru heedless, unperceptive simpletons.
"I want them dead, i want their families dead, i want their houses burnt to the ground, I wanna g there in the middle of the night and piss on their ashes" (see DeNiro-untouchables) What do you do bothers? What is your course of action? |
Wait for them? Ride slowly and avoid them? Where are you going that a few seconds' delay imperils your very existence?
|
It i frustrating when you are riding and some pedestrians wait, and then there is one that doesnt look at walks out right in front of you leaving you no time to react. Next thing you know you are on the ground and getting yelled at by the pedestrian for "biking too fast."

different pedal strokes...

Point your front wheel at one of them and start screaming really loud while increasing speed.
|
Do you have a brake?

Why are you so angry, seek help my brother.

I gave up crosswalks for single track 20 years ago. Thanks.

some peds suck. They jaywalk, walk in bike lanes, and cross the streets without looking, then blame a bicycle for scaring them.
I once was going thru an intersection (i got the green light) but peds still crosses in front of me. This girl, on the phone walks right into the bike lane, not looking. Two guys following her saw me, waited outside the bike lane for a bit, then decide to cross into it anyway. I screeched into a stop w/my front brake. One of the guys said "good thing u have brakes, huh?" "yea, for idiots who jaywalk and do unpredictable things!" i was so mad. anyway. There's jackass drivers, cyclists, and peds. No one respects each other. Just be careful and ignore their yelling i guess. |

as you pass them slap them upside the head
|
well of course no one is going to notice you. they are all to busy staring at their cellphones and whatnot.
|
I agree with your sentiments and feel the exact same way about jackass cyclists who decide to run red lights and almost take me out when I do have the walk signal. Unless there is no traffic of any sort (or traffic is stopped) I choose to obey lights and signs no matter whether I walk or ride. Wish more people would do the same.
|
Anytime peds charge intersections without paying enough attention, I make sure to ride close enough to where I can stick an elbow into them accompanied by a cheery "Heads up."
Im super passive aggressive like that. |
Behave the way you wish everyone else did. The end.
|
I'm so glad I don't actually ride my bike. This stuff sounds dangerous.
|
You need to use loud obnoxious noises. It works for cars, doesn't it? Some options:
1. get a 12v battery and a car horn and wire it up to a button 2. buy one of those Airzound bike horns ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8jrLa8rAmLw ) 3. buy one of those airhorn cans that people use for sports and attach it to your bike in any way you see fit 4. yell "LOOOOKKK OUTTT!!!!" as loud as you can |

(slow, long, labored exhalation as he looks up at previous quote) this is why i stopped coming here. Its not my existence that is imperiled sir, its my demeanor that is "imperiled", Clearly sir... you and i ride in two different ways, which is absolutely fine. I have a compulsion to press on... and feel that I should be able to press on if the traffic light does find itself in my favor... good day to you and yours.
People ignoring the light suck. Better that they're on foot rather than in cars or on bikes. Use your whistle to clear them out if it really bothers you that much. Better still, use it as an opportunity to pause for a slow, long, labored exhalation so you can keep your blood pressure down. |

If you don't want people's thoughts on the matter, maybe you should continue not to come here, or at least don't start the thread and complain about it.

Which is why you know I HAVE a whistle. ahem... Sooooo... you're telling me to "use it if it bothers me that much" is about as helpful as if you had said "my brain is really too sluggish for creative thought or humor" Good day sir. |
So wait...you posted a thread asking others for their opinions and now you're getting your knickers in a bind because you're getting what you asked for?
Getting that angry at stupid people walking in the bike lane and ignoring lights is like getting mad at winter for producing snow. Good day, sir. |
I think your Under Armor is too tight, this seems to be a common problem in Philly.

What do we do? We get over our overinflated sense of entitlement, back off the aggro attitude, and just be a friendly person. Seriously. Your attitude towards peds (you want to do what to them?) makes you no better than the a-hole motorists that harass cyclists for riding on "their" road.
