not the best, but your favourite fixed hub?

Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? not the best, but your favourite fixed hub?

i see a good few here are manically obsessive about hubs..
which is your faves?
my list includes chub, zipp, paul, phil, the innards of a ghibli disc, and record c-style..

my faves, and most coveted would be the zipp.. at the moment.

I gotta go with the Suzue disco--good hub, F'ing AWESOME hologram decals!

edit: though I would love to get a nice Phil. I'm not really much of an afficianado, but Phil speaks to me with this high-grade smooth handcrafted goodness. Like the fine grain Italian leather chair of hubs.

Another vote for the Suntour Superbe Pro's. Also love the old Campagnolo Record "sheriff's star" hubs. Like jewlery.

I like my Phil's and my hologram suzues, sparkly in the sun.

Don't know if bull's eye ever made a track hub, but I saw a tubular wheel built up at my buddys house the other day. Why did they go out belly up again?

I have Campy, Dura Ace, Gipiemme Special, Van Dessel, and a set of custom Zipp tri-spoked wheels.
They are all sweet.

I've gone through several good sets of hubs: Surly's, Promax SB, Campy high flange (sheriffs star and 6 window), and now I'm working on a set of pauls and a set of suntour superbe. So far for the money and durability the Suzue Promax is it for me, although my Pauls will surely become the new favorites when they are finished. Sweet hubs.

The Sheriff's star campy's were by far the nicest looking and are considered to be the Holy grail of hubs, and for what I sold them for I am building up 2 sets of equally great wheelsets.

my dura ace high-flange hubs are probably my favorites right now. but just TRY riding them for 4 months with a loaded up front basket. it just doesn't seem like a good idea to put 10-15lbs of crap in a basket on top of a high-quality loose-ball hub, then ride it over bumpy, pot-holey roads.

I love my gold Paul/Gaansari hubs but the Surlys I had were fine, too. Phils rock as do most high flange makes & models.

I don't know about you guys, but I really do love the Suzue basic. It's by far the best hub ever produced. I mean, it's totally multi-purpose. There are all sorts of fun things you can do with them when the threads strip, such as using it as a paperweight, or throwing the bearings at people!

i think shimano killed bullseye with the advent of the cassette. i would wet myself if they made a track hub. these were made to last a lifetime, rebuildable, indexable, and modular. only in america, baby.
