Cheap fixed wheelset
Well some guy on craigslist was nice enough to give me a Peugeot frame since mine was stolen, and I plan on converting it to a fixed gear. I'm looking for a very plain fixed wheelset, under $100, if possible. Recommendations? Also, the frame is roughly 57-58cm (I measured), and I'm about 6'1-6'2. I know this bike is on the smaller side for my height, will it be too uncomfortable?

Ya but tires tubes and a cog will run you at least 30$. I think they are perfect for they budget build.
|
the amelias are a good deal...if youre tight on the money.
comes with everything you need, tires, tubes, lockring, fixed cog, and freewheel? not sure onthe last one but yeah, ordered a pair a while ago. the downsides...cheap chinese tires, def not kendas, heavy, and hubs leave much to be desired. |
I noticed the Weinmann wheels have a non-machined sidewall. Doesn't this mean brake pads don't work as well on these?

Weinmann does make machined wheels though. Just look around for them. |
i've had excellent dealings with bicycle wheel warehouse, their cheapest fixed wheelset is 99$$ and sounds like it will be an excellent wheelset for the money.

Yes that's what it means. Also your brakes will squeel alot too. I suggest machined walls.
Weinmann does make machined wheels though. Just look around for them. Because I am currently running Velocity deep vs with non-machined walls, and I have no fading and no squeaking at all...silent like a ninja :P The brake I am using is a shimano 500 caliber if it makes a difference. |
Either of those wheelsets posted should be fine.

www.bikeisland.com has got a set of Vueltas for 99.95 w/no shipping.
|
i'd much rather have a set of alex r450's to formulas than any of the aforementioned plus 12 bucks.
http://www.benscycle.net/index.php?m...oducts_id=5622 but that's just me. if you need oodles of spokes, or if you really just need a crap wheelset, go with the complete tire set. or tech9, they're all the same. |
it is not cheap enough
|
I was also looking for a cheap wheelset but I wanted some 700s.
Does anyone know where I can get some decent quality and priced deep v's? |
dp18s are not deep v's but they're the closest you'll get without spending 200 at bell's or another ebay dealer. and 200 may be 2008 prices, i can't seem to find anything that low now.

yeah but they are slightly heavier and have a defined lip around the braking surface, machined or not. thus, 'closest.'
btw i say heavier, really i mean a 455lbs cow vs. a 467lbs cow. |

DP 18's are the exact same 30mm depth as Velocity "deep Vs". So are Alex Race 30 wheels.
the O8 hubs are a little silly though... also, im pretty sure my 18's come with a braking surface, i wouldn't really know from experience though.... |
OP listens to chillwave, therefore shouldn't ride with brakes.
Lol, just kidding. If you don't, though, definitely go for the DP18 set! I have an LP18/Origin 8 set that I love. Cheap but smooth and fairly light. |
Velomine has Deep V to Formula for as low as $165 and DP18s as low as $100. Both are pretty good deals.
