Still getting into the fixed swing of things and was thinking about how ok going to be using my bike as my main source of transportation and the last thing I need is to have a part come loose or something break. I was wondering what tools do you guys carry with you and use the most or are most crucial to you?

Multitool with chain tool and spoke wrench, a few spare chain links, 15mm wrench, crescent wrench (it is an old bike), tire levers, patch kit, co2 inflator, spare tube, and $4 in my wallet reserved for a tire boot or bus fare.

Also the day after I fix something that needs another tool, I carry that tool too.

15mm wrench for my wheels. patch kit(lever, patches, tube) if u want u can get an allen key multi tool

I commute to work every day, 25 miles round trip. As far as tools, I carry my multitool, spare tube, patch kit, co2 pump + cartridges, and a 15mm wrench when I ride the Sputnik. I haven't really needed anything else so far. I once had a shifter cable snap on my road bike that left me stuck in the highest gear for around 8 miles.. uphill.. I didn't have a tool with me to fix it.. that sucked..

I generally check my bikes from time to time when i'm at home, so if there are any problems, I can take care of it before I get out on the road.

definitely going to pick up a multi tool, mini cresent wrench, some chain links, extra tube and co2 pump now. i think that will take care of anything?

You're going to want tire levers and a patch kit could make things easier.

Patch kit and 15mm wrench.

I would carry a mini pump if I had one.

hehe whats the point of the patch kit if you dont have a pump or tire levers :P

15mm wrench, spare tube, CO2 pump w/ 2 cartridges, 3 way wrench, tire lever, patch kit.

I typically carry a tire lever, Co2 pump w/ two cartridges, a spare tube, patch kit, 15mm stubby wrench and a multi-tool.

However, the last time I got a flat, I fumbled with my Co2 inflator while installing the cartridge, dropped it and it went down a damn storm drain. :lol: It was a long walk home in the middle of the night.

If this ever happens again, just adjust your stops next time so the rear derailler doesn't retract all the way to the highest gear.

As for tools, I don't carry anything but water. Probably a bad thing.. But I suppose it could be worse.

Working as a messenger I have a few more tools in my bag than most, but they have all been usefull at some point.

Combo 15mm/ headset wrench(the headset part isnt a nessisary carry all the time tool, but its been nice to have a few times)

hand pump(always works, unlike co2)

I only use CO2 when I'm racing and wan to be able to fix a flat as soon as possible. Otherwise pumps are better IMO. Slower, but unlimited use and less expensive in the long run. The best I've used is are the Topeak road and mountain morphs. They have a retractable hose, gauge, and footrest. Basically a mini-floor pump.

Surprised no one mentioned a lighter and papers.

I usually carry a trixie tool, Allen key multi-tool, tire levers, patch kit, mini pump, and a presta to schraeder valve adapter. Cone wrenches wouldn't be a bad thing to carry either.

What tools would I need to remove all the components off the frame?

Metric hex keys and you might need some box wrenches or sockets. Some more specific tools for the headset cups and bottom bracket/cranks, depending on what you've got.

Other than the usual wrenches and allens you would need

Headset wrench(come in a few sizes, and only needed if its a threaded headset)
Pedal wrench (narrow 15mm box wrench)
Crank puller
BB wrench(either a flat box wrench, or a spanner)
Lockring tool
Chain whip, freewheel remover(lots of variety)
Chain break
Headset extractor(rocket ship)

Other tools for taking things apart, thats not really stripping the frame
Spoke key
Cone wrench(a few sizes)
Tire levers

Other things you need for proper maintenance
Floor pump
Chain oil
Grease(carbon parts use a different grease)
Cable cutters
Pressure gauge
Truing stand
Torque wrenches
Headset press.

also a headset extractor and a hammer

I carry a multi tool, 6 inch adjustable wrench, tyre levers, spare tube, mini pump (on the frame usually), zip ties, a few spare 5mm bolts, chain links, a patch kit, and a very small bottle of chain lube.
