Show me why Create bikes are so bad quality!

Hello,

I have seen lots of reviews where Create bikes are heavily criticised, but no one has posted any pictures or videos of the bikes exploding while you cycle them (As some people claims)

They are made in China, yes... Is that all?

Thanks for your input

M.

First of all, i haven't heard of them. they could be amazing.

second of all, there are tons of bikes that suck out there. the main reason they suck is because they are much lower quality than a few other bikes available for the same amount of money. usually, such bikes are just some idiot's foray into a market they don't understand. These 'producers' are overconfident in their design skill and think they can hype their flashy painted knockoff enough to make a considerable profit on rebranded chinese product.

and i'm sorry, but to succeed in that kind of endeavor you have to either cater to idiots, like RYD, or be so ****ing talented and smart that you can actually make a bike worth the price increase over something like a bikesdirect or leader. like Traitor bikes or All-City.

the people behind the latter actually know what they're doing. RYD is just a hipster cess pool run by jackasses selling ****ty bikes and a hyped image that kids in LA go ape for.

usually, the people who refuse to believe that the above is true or applies to their bike are either:
1. selling something
2. butthurt that they spent their money on an inferior product, and deep down know that the hype they bought into is bs.

it's not that these Create bikes are made in china-
it's that they are made in the same factories as bikes that are less expensive and/or more enjoyable to ride/deliver better performance for their intended use.

made in china is par for the course with cheap bikes now. because of this, china's gotten pretty good at making bikes. it's how most chinese people get around, and as with most everything production has moved to asia while america and most of europe do the design and engineering. but that doesn't mean that some small time artwannabe trendy hip hypemongering doushbag company that sets out to make unimaginitive bikes is offering a good product. in this oversaturated market, you have to be a complete idiot to choose a republic bike or an RYD over a kilo or a 722. or a windsor hour. or a goddamn se draft, which is basically a republic bike for a hunded or so less and better wheels. or a madison.

i'm all for supporting the little guy. but i'm not for supporting the little redbull drinking socal bro who thinks he's awesome when his designs are crap and his bikes are more expensive than a fuji track and perform worse than an se draft.

or maybe not. i've never heard of these bikes, and you cite no sources for said 'critical reviews.' i don't intend to look them up either, because i think you're trolling or shilling or both.

Never heard of them, so Google revealed that they are essentially the UK version of Republic Bikes: https://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2009/...gear-grows-up/

OP, go look up "republic bikes," and you'll see lots of comments about why people hate them. Long story short, for the price, you COULD get a much nicer bike. These bikes are just catering towards people who want pretty colors and don't know/care about the fact that the components are crap.

Ryan,

First, I'm wondering if you're being sarcastic.

Second, I'd gladly take you up on that and you should know that I graduated class of 2003 from Oakton Highschool in fairfax county. So that isn't as much of an impossibility as any random dude on the internet may assume it to be.

Also, if they're the same as republic bikes then it's pretty well known that yes, they suck.

Sarcastic in that (I assume) you do not actually publish a newsletter to which I might subscribe. But I found your response to be reasonable, well thought out, and well presented.

I'm a man of my word, next time you find yourself in town I will make good on my offer of complimentary liquid refreshment. I'm on the MD side but my younger brother is working on his masters at GMU and he lives in Vienna so I'm down that way a lot.

Perhaps there should be a monthly cc700 newsletter. I'd even make it a sticky.

Looking for a man with reasonable views on cycling culture. Knowledgeable, but not too pretentious. Must have opinions on the realness of steel, foot retention, and Republic Bikes. Local boys preferred.

Maybe I can buy you a drink, read your newsletter, see where things go from there...

wow, I'm amazed that the 722 is getting so much love these days. When I got mine a year ago people seemed apprehensive about them. Very good deal considering what you get.

Thanks for all your coments I will take them in consideration! Seem more like a trend and supporting the small man.

However, some of you mention that for the amount of money a Create Bike Costs I could get other bikes...but to be honest I cant find much on 350 range.
I have seen a nice Fuji on my LBS today, its interesting, little... I will try it when IŽll recover from my accident.

CC700 Your words are interesting I shall keep reading.

Scrodzilla: A sticky post on reviews would be interesting.

Thanks to all

Most if not all build a bike configurators are not really build a bike in the sense that a computer system configurator is. And that's where the failing, even harsh judgment is similarly based. The bike components are the same across the board, color is the difference, the component often winds up being a manufacturers entry level offering. With computer system configurators, you get a choice of cpu speed, memory options, video card, all that have a quality upgrade within the category of components. I guess it's build a bike in that it allows you to see the artistic creation. But often times this comes at a $ 100 premium in cost, even though the inconvenience of waiting 2 weeks for the bike to be put together happens.

The frame should be good to begin with and then you should be able to spec the bike the way you want.

Bikebiz has a configurator that's good... but the choices can be literally overwhelming.

I think it would be helpful if they grouped part packages into Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced so people could choose parts appropriate to their riding interests and budget.

That's the way to make an online bike build more convenient and accessible.
