Nashbar fluid trainer
 

im looking to pick one of these up used and i was just wondering if they work with bolt on rear wheels. the guy im looking to buy it off says he used it with bolt on wheels but i wanted to see if anyone here has any experience with them.

I am also interested in this. Potential Christmas present?

Or maybe I should just... what do you guys call it... HTFU and ride outside?

I've had this trainer for about 25 years, and it's fantastic. It simulates both wind resistance as a function of speed and inertial resistance when accelerating. Unlike conventional trainers that are driven by the rear tire, it has it's own freewheel and solid axle that supports the frame dropouts. No tire wear or slipping. The company that made them (Houdaille) has long since stopped making them, which is a real shame.

Lemond makes a new version of the Houdaille Road Machine. While Greg's idea is not very original I like the idea more then the normal trainers(mag,fluid,wind) but pretty expensive. Back to the original question. Yes a bolt on wheel will work the Nasbar Fluid trainer. I tossed my EighthInch Tessa rear wheel into my Nasbar fluid trainer and it fits perfectly with no play. The trainer is the new model as I just bought it last month. Now if I could just figure out where to attach my resistance adjustment lever on my bike since it has bars with the flat aero-ergo section. I bought it since it's ALOT quieter then a mag or wind trainer and half the price of a name brand trainer. I tried a CycleOps Mag trainer at my LBS and it was incredible loud and not adjustable and for the adj fluid trainer it was $300. While the Nasbar adj fluid trainer ran me $150 so you do the math and that's $150 to use on one of my bikes or for training videos.
