Ritchey Breakaway SS

Hey everyone.

I'm thinking about trying to hunt up a Ritchey Breakaway SS. I'm wondering if anyone has actually ridden one of the Breakaway SS's and what they thought of the ride and the frame quality. I'm a bit of a Clydesdale (6' 7'', 230) and I'd hate to have something fail on me.

Thanks!

You can see a picture of one on the front page, but they don't sell them anymore on the website. I was thinking I'd get a used one, or I've heard Ritchey still has a few NOS frames sitting around.

To bad it's way too small.

I have ridden the road version and loved it. Very stiff and solid feeling. I'm not as big as you, though (6'0", 165#). I do know an older guy who is probably a little over 200#s who has one and swears by it, though.

I didn't even realize they made it as a SS...that's sweet. Seems logical for a travel bike when you don't want to have to fuss with anything.

How about a Surly Travelers check?.

The Surly would be cool, but I think I might be able to get the Ritchey for a bit less. And if I was going to go the S&S route I'd think about getting a nicer frame and having them put on myself.

ATX, thanks for the info! A SS does seem to make a ton of sense..too bad it's discontinued.
