Bens Cycles: ever had any trouble?

I ordered a wheel set and a lockring from these guys about a week ago. The total came out to be about 190 bucks. That was allright with me, the wheels looked pretty hot, but instead of charging me 190, they charged me 1900, yes $1900.00, so now my bankacout is at zero, ive been over charging my acout, i may get f'ed over by my credit co., and possobly evicted. Needless to say im pretty pissed at these guys.
i just wanted to know if any of you guys ever delt with these guys and have had good luck. im stressing right now, and i dont even have my wheels yet.
these babies better be made out of gold for all this s*!+

I've had a bad experience with them. I bought a handlebar, or a seat, don't really remember what it was, from them on ebay because it was over a year ago. I tried to pay them through paypal, but they wouldn't accept my payment. I finally sent them a money order for the $10 or whatever it was, but they said they never got it. Oh well, I was out $10, and they left me negative feedback on ebay! They then blocked me form emailing them, and said they didn't remember me or my item or payment when I tried to call them. Good luck with your wheelset.

the wheels are good for the money, but not $1900.00...they should be able to reverse the overcharge to your account IF YOU CALL THEM ASAP. I have dealt with Ben's 3-4 times and only ran into a problem once: they shipped one toe strap instead of 2. Took care of me in 2 days.
Call it a fat finger error. I would talk to all aprties involved and document what you can (show all paper work, the auction, etc showning that this is NOT your fault) and present it as such. Unless you are a deadbeat who has been threatened eviction before. Give it a shot - just communicate all situations to all parties that can screw you over.
*edit*
I'll be out near Hershey this weekend for family schtuff...if they do screw you over, I'll bring you a mason jar containing the soul of the proprieter of ben's Cycles. But I doubt it will get that bad.

Funny you mention Ben's Bikes. I thought the store was a total scam until I found out that UPS ****ed up the delivery and dropped off the wheelset to CityBikes in Adams Morgan and not my apt.

bought a wheelset from them earlier this year, no problems. fast shipping.

**** complaining about it here-- get on the phone! call the shop, your CC company, your bank, your landlord, and sort it out.

this sort of stuff happens all the time-- I just temp-jobbed for a credit card customer service department. chargebacks happen all the time.

thats funny. Ben's explicitly says they dont take PayPal. No wonder they wouldn't accept it.

I found they were just a little sketch-- after I bought something they didn't send me an invoice, didn't contact me-- 4 days later i had to beg to get just payment info. Then I paid on some odd website and then they didn't notice that I had paid, so it didn't ship for another week or so.

Overall, a good deal, but crappy transaction. Not worth it in my mind.

Well Ben's Bike is a LBS for me. I go there alot. I've got some amazing deals on ebay and have gone in and paid for it in person. In fact I'm heading there today to pick up a sweat catcher for my bike on the trainer. They have been in business for over 70 years. They have two guys working the computer selling tons of stuff via ebay and other venues and unfortunately I think those two guys are in over thier head. My last purchase from bensbike via ebay had some issues with payment as I went to the store and paid for the pedals. The guy at the counter forgot to tell the guys running ebay and I kept getting invoices complaining I hadn't paid for the pedals ( that I was using and had left feedback for already). I went in and talked to them and they apologized and said they were very very busy with the ebay sales.

Now I'm not making excuses for Ben's and if they are going to do all this ebaying then they ought to do it right, but the store is a friendly place and has been around forever. You can get great deals and if you call them you will get it fixed.

let us know how this turns out as I'm sure Ben's will make it right if you contact them.

I just ordered a new set of wheels with a flip/flop axle and they showed up on time. No problems at all.

I ordered a flip flop set and they shipped to 5940, not 6940. That person was out of town for a week and UPS said it was signed for by "The Bush" - eventually it all worked out, but I'm not thrilled with the wheels. Machined sidewalls = not.

I've ordered through them multiple times with no problems. I usually call as soon as the ebay auction is over and talk to someone directly to settle everything. They've been pretty reliable for me.

Well, now i have to add a comment in this thread.
So far I've had a mediocre, almost bad experience with Bensbike.

I ordered and paid for a wheelset on the 19th. I was told they were going to ship on the 22nd. Not bad. but apparently "he didn't have room in his car" on Friday so he didn't take the wheels to the post office.
As of today (the 27th) they still haven't shipped, though i was assured that they'd go out today.

I'm in Canada, so maybe that explains why its been so slow. And on thop of that I'm likely looking at a 3 week delay at customs, if I'm lucky.
Crap.

I just bought a bullhorn mountain bike bar from them, price and shipping and the bar where super good, super fast. BUT, the bar doesn't have any plugs and it is a non standard size. I emailed them and asked for suggestions about this-- don't really want water in it when it rains and i dont really want to risk falling on the bar and spearing myself with a nice funnel shaped wound.

https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...e=STRK:MEWN:IT

Here's the link in the pic it doesnt show a cap on the bars if you look close enough but i sort of assumed that if you sell a handlebar it comes with its own plugs.

I've heard you can get corks from wine bottles. But I don't buy wine in bottles.

There ya go, i will go out and buy two large bottles of wine-- with corks. Then, with the will of a god i will force myself to consume the two bottles over the weekend. I imagine i can trim the corks to fit the bars then wrap em.

By the will of Jeremy, you will consume 4 bottles over the weekend. Two of them will be with a very pretty cyclist of your choosing. You will enjoy yourself.
