i need help deciding on pedal set up. i been looking at the MKS GR9, wellgo BMX, and the wellgo track pedals. i do want some sort of foot retention. i would like have something like holdfast straps. which pedal would be best for hold fast straps (or some thing similar)? would like something to match the bar tape.

WoundedKnee 12-13-10 12:11 AM

No wellgos/holdfast, get some MKS RMX pedals and Bikeage Catalina foot straps.

i love khs roadbikes, especially the hard to find curved st ones. id ride it geared.

I think you should ditch that red bar tape for some silver Fizik tape.
+1 on riding it geared suggestion above.

edit: if you could score a silver stem for it, that would be nice as well.

WoundedKnee 12-13-10 12:28 AM

Why not convert it? You can always change it back.

LesterOfPuppets 12-13-10 12:30 AM

sounds like too much trouble to me, but to each his own.

If it were mine, I'd probably keep my eye out for a nice used double crankset and bb, too.

hairnet 12-13-10 01:54 AM

fix that rear brake cable routing

swick 12-13-10 09:14 PM

constrictive criticism at its best. thank you.

are the RMX easy to flip in to when they have the straps.

i was looking at some silver tape. it would have worked well on the bike. i went with the red because it was 5 bucks and it makes you look twice. its funny that you mention to look for a silver stem. im in the process of doing so. i need a longer one.

that what i was thinking. i was riding this bike as a single speed for a little. it was so much fun.

thank you for pointing that out. done.

swick 12-13-10 10:17 PM

you can say im looking for pedals that can be used for fixed or geared commuting.

Kol.klink 12-14-10 10:08 AM

If you plan or riding it over the winter convert it, i mean if you're going to use it in the winter, less there is on your bike to muck up, setsets and BB's can be replaced but if they STi's break you out some $ likely dooming the bike to it's beater fate forever, at least if all the parts work you can always un-convert it. when people suggest to not converting people seem to think spare cash or frames are just laying about the place..

avner 12-14-10 12:52 PM

I'd totally paint that frame.

XianRL 12-14-10 01:20 PM

No Miami Vice jokes yet?

But seriously, converting is fun and self-fulfilling. It's cool to make something out of almost nothing. If you have the time, energy and money, then why not? We need something to keep us occupied in these cold months ... unless you're somewhere it's always warm. In which case ... :notamused:

im a really big fan of simplicity and minimalism. i will be riding this thing a lot during the winter or rainy season. im with you on removing the expensive parts and convert to ss or fg. every thing on the bike works perfect. the sti had to soak in simple green for two days. this is my only bike and im trying to keep a budget on it as well.

i have the time and the energy but not the money. i can see 100 bucks going in to this bike to convert or 100 bucks to make it a better road bike. i been needing a cheap project to keep me sane.

i still need some help with pedals. i do not know what will work best. the shoes i have are vans skate and Adidas sambas and i use this bike for commuting and fun.

I hear the Catalina v1.5 straps will hit the store on Bikeage super soon. They'll be an option to buy a BMX pedal combo, too. (Is this a schill? I suppose so. But I don't even own the first version of the Catalina straps!)

I imagine these pedals/straps will work with your shoe style.

swick 12-16-10 09:51 PM

im just wondering if flipping in to that pedal set up is harder to do vs. a set up with clips

swick 12-24-10 05:49 PM

new now pic

really considering the catalina v1.5's and the origin 8 cnc track pedal.
