Tom Teesdale Frames
 

Any experience with these? I'm having a hard time finding any solid reviews on these. It seems like a lot of people complain about the paint job, or is this a non issue? How is the rest of the build quality?

I'm sure you've come across that already. When it comes to paint, though, you have to bear in mind that there are a lot of things that effect paint durability -- just as well, from the looks of the builders website, these aren't powdercoated, so they are being painted to look pretty and not withstand a ridiculous beating.

Yea, I saw that mtbr review page. His reviews look pretty great, except for the one guy who absolutely hates TET... but those horror stories are bound to happen. Paint isn't too big of an issue for me. Things are looking good. His frames look really, really "affordable" for custom made.

I agree. You may also want to look at his 'resume' (so to speak). I don't think you have much to worry about when it comes to build quality.

yah so did one of my brothers. dont know what he did with it.
subsequently, i grew up next to Mt. Tam....Mt. Tamalpais to be precise. apparently where the first mountain bikes were tested or so ive heard.

For $315, minus the saddle/pedals/cranks/chain/wheels... not bad? The fork is a Reynolds Ouzo Pro.

Well, I like the frame/fork/stem combo.

But I agree. Meh. Frame is unpainted, and I'm not about to shell out another $75+ for a paint job. Price drop or bust.

Well...$315 for a used custom frame is a hell of a deal.

It was a lot better of a deal when it was the full bike posted above with Dura Ace 7700 cranks, Eighth Inch Julian rear, Vuelta Pista front for $500.

We'll see if he'll price drop. Regardless of the deal, I don't need another bike eating up my cash, and I have a hard time believing that bike can be flipped for much more than $315... unless you guys can prove me wrong.

If it isn't made for you, it isn't custom anymore. It's just a 315 dollar frame.

Well I got it down to $265 shipped, which is pretty good in my book. I'll be getting:

Tom Teesdale built Reynolds 853 frame
Reynolds Ouzo Pro full carbon fork
AHeadset
Seatpost clamp
Seatpost

Seems pretty good, considering the frame is $875 new and the fork is $350 new.

the argument could be made that the custom frame is still better quality welds etc than a comparably priced mass produced frame. custom built geometry may transfer well too if you get a seller of similar proportions.

Eh, when was the last time you heard of the welds failing on any mass produced frame? It's no better than any other Reynolds 853 frame, and for the price the guy ended up paying it's a good buy, but it's still no different functionally than any mass produced frame that fits you.
