If your cadence ever is anywhere over 100, I'd say foot retention is absolutely necessary.

I'm 5'10 and the stand over clearance seems ok - I have about 1/2 inch or so between my boys and the top tube.

I took it out for a quick spin after I assembled and checked everything. I could probably raise the seat up a little bit - not much though. The reach is not as far as my road bike, but it doesn't feel cramped. I could alwyas get a longer stem I suppose.

I know I do not have have any foot retention yet - I have Hold Fast pedal straps on order to fit the platform pedals I put on.

So what don't you like? I was thinking I should get a chrome seat post and stem

OK, so I changed out the seat post and handle bars and bought silver ones. I replaced the stock stem with a Thomson 0 degree - the black matches the frame better than the stock stem which was more matt. I bought some Oury grips (love them) and I also put on some black peddles from my bmx - i think they look better than the silver ones did. I am not sure if I like the Profile Design seat post mount, but I do need water for the rides I do so I may just keep it.
Let me know what you think and please give me any ideas you may have.

PS: I know the Gutterball is not the GTB, nor a track bike - I don't do track anyways and I got a hell of a deal on it! Plus I love it.
Aaaannnnd i'm not ready to lose the brakes yet .......

The same stem, but in silver, would finish the bike for good.

Looks great.

She looks like a sweet ride. No need to remove the brakes. If you love riding that bike, you'll start going further which means there'll be times when you're tired or coming down steep hills, that's when brakes are very nice. You can still develop your brakeless techniques with the brakes on the bike.

i'm kind of over this sentiment. my winter/bad weather bike is set at 42x17. most of the time, i have clipless pedals on there. when i'm lazy, i ride it with normal sneakers. if you know how to ride a fixed gear, you'll be fine.

Yes only once. The weather in NYC has been cold but its getting warm again! Right now, I notice that the stem is a little short for me; at least thats what I think.
I have bullhorns and thickslick tire coming in for the rear.

How do you know you're going to like bullhorns if you've barely ridden the damn thing as it sits now? Stop buying new **** for it until you figure out if you even like it.

BTW - ThickSlicks kinda suck.

Just needs new bars and 29 more spokes on the front wheel.

...Does that wheel even have a braking surface?

What's it being used for? That doesn't look like a pleasant commuter at all.

The saddle to bar drop ain't that bad with the slammed seatpost and all. Speaking of slammed seatposts, I don't like them, but hey it's a pursuit bike so it almost makes it ok. That bike is still salvageable; get some non-cheapo bars, saddle, pedal setup and tires. That front wheel is awful (so tarck with the setup), but I'd probably be tempted to use it if I already had one too. Fork looks out of place initially but I do see it matches the logos. It's not as bad as people make it seem, but people here do have a tendency to put down builds that look like they're trying too hard, and this is just about there.

If he's pleased with it, then that's awesome! But a pursuit styled bike for commuting makes my back hurt thinking about it. Another thing is that the parts don't seem very cohesive. If he sold that front wheel he could pimp out his bike and buy some better parts.
