......so I guess this setup is never coming off this bike, given the fact that the bar-ends have been afixed to the platform. If you're serious enough about transport I guess it doesn't really matter but it seems odd to me.

Judging by the ****tyness of the rest of the bike I'm sure the owner doesn't care too much.

I rather enjoy how it was crudely transformed from a 'girls bike' into a proper mens bike with a bit of electrical conduit. Or maybe they're just going after the new Rivendell chic

not my bike, but that is there to protect the frame from the bars if they whip around and smack the top tube.

ah lol, i forgot to put the pic with the new chain on photobucket... imagine a pristine white half-link joining that white front gear to the single speed rear end

yikes, don't like either of these. the step thru(through?) could be nice but too much white, the chain and crankset on the yellow bike is bad. and red seatpost?

seau grateau 01-10-11 12:52 AM

The first one looks like I threw up. I like the second one, but if you're gonna do a white thing, I'd keep going with white saddle, grips, and cable routing.

zoltani 01-11-11 11:58 AM

Those wheels on the step through just look off to me, and that rear brake cable routing is wonky.

Scrodzilla 01-11-11 12:09 PM

Unless you're talking about the length of the cable itself, it's common for rear cables to be routed like that on a lot of step through frames.

zoltani 01-11-11 12:15 PM

Yeah I was speaking more of the length. Routing tends to be cleaner on mixte frames, which I know that isn't one, but still....

zoltani 01-11-11 12:17 PM

OK, I'll play. This has already been posted in the "racked" thread, but I'll put it up here so it can get dissed on.

Bar tape color could be better, but I'm not gonna be changing it anytime soon since it is still in great shape.

TejanoTrackie 01-11-11 12:30 PM

^^^ Wrong thread. That is a perfectly rational and functional bike with no elements of jackassery or faux hipsterism. The only thing that I don't like is the saddle angle, looks painful to me, but if it works for you then who cares.

zoltani 01-11-11 12:39 PM

Have yet to ride it enough to truly dial in the saddle angle, fore/aft position. Usually with my brooks saddles I have the nose tilted quite a bit at the beginning and as it breaks in more I level it (aiming to keep the sit bone areas level with the ground). The imperial cutout changes things a bit though. Also thinking I need a stem that is just a touch shorter.

I have 2 bikes with Brooks Pro saddles and I've adjusted them to be completely level for the most comfortable position. My understanding is that the wider Brooks B17 works with the nose pointed skyward, but not with the narrower models like the Brooks Pro.

Our bikes are strangely similar. Same panniers, but I use yellow front rollers. Same saddle. Same tires, and wheels maybe? Same levers. Similar frames(Pake C'mute).

zoltani 01-11-11 01:07 PM

I figured people will at least diss me for using two brakes, but I don't care, overkill maybe, though IMO helps with heavy loads and big hills.

Brooks b17 imperial
Sun CR18 with formula hubs (origin 8, whatever)
Can Creek levers SCR-5
Panaracer TG
Surly Cross Check frame

needs some fenders
